Noisy Toad.

Very mixed feelings about this. I can't stand deliberate vehicle noise at the best of times, let alone when it's in a quiet setting like a village or the seaside where you're trying to admire the view in peace and quiet. But where is the line between deliberate noise - which for me is mainly motorbikes with trick exhausts and a performance exhaust on a Z3? I'm not sure either how it relates to driving style. An exhaust is either too noisy or it's not isn't it. Either the MOT tester hasn't picked it up or something has been switched for the visit to the station. Same as people do with license plates.
So I'm not sure we need another set of cameras pointed at us. I'd rather see the government tackle the horrendous slide in driving standards, eg motorway middle lane hogging, cutting people up and the latest one I've seen getting really bad in recent times, drivers joining the motorway and just barging their way in, expecting you to move when you can't and making no attempt to set their speed to find a gap. The sense of entitlement is breath taking.
A couple of weeks ago I was in the Z3 and a tool of a double artic driver decided to overtake me coming out of a 50 limit on a 2-lane stretch of motorway, up a hill. We were both doing around 60, though he was obviously fractionally more than me, so I'm not sure what his basis was. He was left asking the same question when he couldn't get past me and I couldn't drop back even if I wanted to. So what did he do? He moved anyway, and brought the full 60ft of truck across me forcing me onto the hard shoulder (which comes and goes on that section) as I couldn't slow down with cars close behind.
So when we've found a way to deal with tools like that I'll support noise sensors. In the meantime I am now using dashcams - something I always said I never would.

It was a watershed moment for me Tony. Doing 30k miles a year I get tools in cars and vans doing stupid stuff the whole time. Mostly thoughtless/entitled stuff like he's bound to brake from 70 to 50 for me in 20ft. But in fairness artic drivers I've never had a problem with. I held them up as some of the few remaining gentlemen on the road (I think the average age is about 55). And after all they are driving even deadlier missiles than the rest of us so they need to be careful. But the day one of them behaves like that is the day to have some greater protection, even if it's for the Police after I've been flattened.
I'll check but I gave it to my daughter as a present 3 years ago. Never got round to fitting it to her car and have now commandeered it. I get the impression any old dash cam will do in the sense of being better than nothing. But really not up to speed on use ability. The kids set it up and off we went.
It was potentially horrendous and certainly very alarming. The real issue would have been if the hard shoulder ran out or there was an obstruction.

Thankfully there was a hard shoulder and you managed to manoeuvre away from a potential collision.
