I had recently picked up a z3 and I can’t seem to figure out how someone disabled the tc and abs completely because the dash lights don’t even come on and if I plug in my autel or bmw scanner nothing comes up for errors and it show no contact with the module but I can clearly tell there is no abs or tc

I'd guess the bulbs have been removed from the ABS and traction control section of the clocks.

Small torx screws and 2 Allen keys to pull the clocks towards you.

I used a couple of plastic creditcards to squeeze between the binnacle cover and the metal holders before popping two Allen keys in and dragging towards you.

No. I'd guess they could possibly have been removed to hide the fault. I surmise you have felt the ABS failing through your foot?

What year and engine code is your car?

I have the exact same issue at the moment. My abs has also failed. I have a prefacelift 2.8i with the older style ABS pump system.
The trouble I have is that the early cars seem to have difficulty in reading fault codes in most of the diagnostic systems, even expensive kits and bmw's own diagnostics.

Each abs sensor can be tested with a multimeter and probes, unplugged in situ.
Modules and pumps could also be a failure point as well with the later items far easier to remove and replace/refurbish.

A work in progress for me.

Thank you I have the same 2.8i preface as well and I can’t seem to figure this out I’ve checked all the fuses and relays and yes when I slam the breaks, no abs, it just locks up all 4. When I scan it just says the unit may not be equipped for diagnosis
I put new bulbs in and now they just stay lit up (ABS and tc) and the ASC button doesn’t turn off or on the tc

Is it possible you both have the same issue as in this thread?

Hi @t-tony

There could be something in this.

Had to Google the connector reffered in the post, the old serial 'printer' type connector.

I had seen previously that people who wanted INPA had to get an old laptop with windows XP and use this style of cable to connect to the 1997 era ecu.

It could well be I will need to do the same to identify the issue.
