Hi Gazza & James,
I have just noticed that of the last 52 new members, only 3 have given their home Town/City/County, is there a reason for this such as confidentiality or is it just a coincidence? as it meant that you would know if a new member was nearby and would possibly like to meet up for a chat or a drink :beer ;))

Hi Mike,

I guess it's most likely familiarity with the forum options which are available. When I welcome new members I try and put some information together in that post. For example the Getting the most from ZRoadster.org! thread is to try and point newbies at these useful features. It's a Global Announcement which means it's displayed at the top of every thread. I will add locations etc to this article when I've had some sleep!

I'm open to any suggestions for making new members even more welcome. :ymhug:

Cheers, Gary

I normally just put Glasgow'ish

It shows i am in the area of Glasgow without giving to much away

as on the Internet when you frequent a lot of car forums you can build up a picture of some one just by what they talk about on different forums

and that scars people ( me anyway)... :-o

I agree Hard Top, and I have, :ymhug: but which ones do you PM now? :ymsigh: you can't PM all 49 just in case they live nearby #:-s and working on that principal you wouldn't be able to keep up PMing every new member that joins with the same thing in mind. ~x(

No, but you could just drop them a friendly 'Hi' message and encourage them to make a first post, or fill in their details perhaps. Bit like dropping by the new neighbours with a bunch of flowers! Just because they don't actually live near you shouldn't be a barrier to a friendly welcome. :ymhug:

I think the general awareness of privacy is a factor where people put less information on line. These 14 year old cars are still desirable, i think, so could make targets. If you say you're on holiday for a few weeks then with enough searching it's possible to find locations so opens up the possibility of thieves using that information to target you. How much other information you have on yourself that's readily available is different for each person so for some, having a general location isn't an issue.

and as the temp is now getting to 36C (must be in the 40's in the city) a cold beer and the pool is calling :)

Until I saw this thread, I hadn't realised that I didn't have my location on display, although I did mention it on my intro post.

I have now corrected that. I agree that it is handy to know if any fellow forum members are close to you.
