I refurbished my keys last year, the rubber pads were very worn and had all started to perish. Your keys look to be in the same condition as mine were, main thing is DON'T loose the chip, open the key up on a nice clear worktop just in case you drop something out of the key. I did one key at a time and checked the first one to see it was fully functional before doing the second.

I'll second that bit about the chip, it is indeed tiny, and easy to overlook. Read somewhere a while back about someone with a similar key in a Vauxhall who lost it. Gets expensive if that's your only key.
And I have only one key...looks like I'll be visiting the BMW dealer here soon. I have zero confidence in our local locksmiths, from past experience...
I bought some new blanks from ebay, just like these https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=bmw+blank+keys&_sacat=0 and swapped the internal bits after having the cutting done by our local bloke in Pwllheli, no problems at all. If you can get hold of an old key I believe it's possible to code it to your ecu, so long as it has the internals in it. Better than having no key.
Yeah you definitely don’t want to do that..... Ask me how I know If you want to borrow the reader to create yourself some more chips let me know as I have one!
