I did see reports that costs were going up, didn't realise by how much. This is starting to be significant.

I know of people who sorn over winter, does anybody see any downside to me sorning Mon - Fri and only taxing it the weekends I actually take it out ?

Asking for a friend . . .

It is only for the first year, though. Second year and on is not increasing by that much.

That's labour for you, what was the pre election chant? -"we won't put up taxes" - yeah right. Think it's something like 90% of pensioners have lost their winter fuel allowance also.

Car tax seems to go up around 10% automatically each year, what was pre emission based tax on1600cc and above engined cars was around £225, look what that's risen to now.

Electric vehicles, zero tax to encourage people to buy 'em, then sting 'em! Buy diesel cars, up went the price of diesel, run LPG it's cleaner, up went the price of lpg.
Run old bangers, no tax, no mot - hmmmm!!

There is also the cost expensive cars to add.

For cars above £40,000, you’ll pay an additional £410 for the next five years from the second time the vehicle is taxed. You don't have to pay this if you have a zero-emission vehicle. After six years from the date of the first registration, you’ll pay the standard annual rate depending on what fuel your vehicle uses.
So for year 2 to 6 cost is £190 + 410 per year so the M4 is £7680 for 6 years!!!!

Latest purchase looks like a wise buy, not a replacement for the Zed although nil tax no mot and £121 insurence makes running cost a lot less.View attachment 322675
Looks nice, the thing about these old cars is you can nearly always fix things. I have had my old Fiat for nearly three years now and it's always got me home. It has had one or two hiccups but never anything that can't be solved.

If I had space in the garage, I would have a restored Triumph Stag in there by now. I do love a Stag.
The best thing about MGBs, Triumphs, etc is there is a HUGE market for parts. You can get more new parts for a 1967 MGB than you can for a 1997 Z3.

Yeah. With the previous government it was getting difficult to figure out the most tax efficient way to pay myself.

Taking dividends instead of salary to avoid national insurance is hardly worth it nowadays since the previous government taxed me divs. Bah!

Previous govt also reduced the allowance on capital gains closing that (perfectly legal) loop hole too. Another Bah!

Thank dog they got voted out. Labour on the other hand mainly do stuff that "sounds like" they're doing stuff to help workers when in fact they're just screwing everyone - but the wealthy just relocate their PO Box address to the isle of man to avoid corporation tax and then pass that recent change in national insurance back onto the workers - but-not-as-a-tax.

All very well us moaning, but the money to pay for all the services has to come from somewhere. Being a grumpy old man I like a moan. Things could be worse, they've got Trump in the US! Just appointed an idiot who thinks vaccines are a hoax to run the health department. :p

And, if that isn't bad enough, have a look who he's got for the Defence job.

Many morons! Edward Jenner must be turning in his grave. I wonder just how many millions of lives have been saved around the world by vaccines since he first pioneered a vaccine for smallpox.
