Ok so I’ve now got the hardtop and correct switch. What about the wiring that connects the top to the rear demister switch. Looking on real oem I think I need part number 61108400220 is this correct. Doesn’t look very long ??
Also will I need anything else such as a relay fuse ?
I’ve a facelift 2000 Z3

You may find that most of the wiring is already installed and you just need the final connetor pieces.

I have just had a look in the Bentleys manual, and the circuit diagrams for 2000 are either M coupe or Z3 coupe
which I dont think applies to your car
As follows

But the earlier diagram 1998 Late Production may be the one you need.

This shows a hardtop connector and a relay

The page one for the 1998 is for early production and does not have a relay.
The relay that is shown is letter N in the following picture.

On my 1998 1.9lt that relay is for the heated seats ??

Hope this is of some use and not confused you !!!!!

Oh I’m proper confused now I thought I just needed some wiring with connectors and maybe a relay. Reading this I think I’m going to book a night course in electronics :banghead:
Thanks @Mazza

For what it's worth you don't really need a rear demister. I've never connected mine and can't recall ever needing to.

Simplifying it....
Fuse 23 is a 5 amp fuse ( only live when ignition on) which provides power to the switch.
When the switch is on, the relay is energised, which means that power is passed from Fuse 6 (20 amp and permanently live) through the relay to the rear window defogger ( as they say in America) via the hard top connector.
Thats basically it.

Do you have the switch already installed??
Are the fuses installed?
Is there a relay in position N or just a relay base?

Pretty sure this is the bit you need, it simply plugs in between the existing connectors for the electric roof.

I actually find it is one of the biggest benefits of the hardtop. icy window, press a button and it clears quickly. long before the car heater gets warm.

It also clears quickly if it mists up inside, due to, for example, snowy feet causing wet carpets etc.
"one mans meat..." and all that.

Are you looking for the wiring harness that the demister switch plugs into? If so it is taped back on itself against the wiring harness running under the centre console. It's a fiddle but if you lift off the plate holding the demister switch you can get your fingers in and feel for the wiring harness, you'll feel some electrical insulation tape holding the switch connector block & wiring back against the main loom. Undo the tape and pull the connector/wiring back to the switch mounting plate.

Yes this is exactly what I think I’m looking for the harnes that goes to the switch.

This is the only bit of loom we needed when we put my hardtop on @Disca Zed. About £20 IIRC. The switch connector was under the centre console where the switch goes.
