Makes sense for merc as they already have a commercial vehicle arm so they can sell this to all the tax dodging 'scrap metal collectors'

Isn't the VAT status of these different to passenger cars?
Thats why they want a slice of the market I bet.

As a company car they were tax free but the Taxman closed that loophole a few years ago now.

Most benefits company car-wise have been closed. Its the initial purchase that I though didn't attract VAT so making them cheaper to buy.

I would've thought that as a goods vehicle it would attract VAT mate?

Yes, a company enjoys a full VAT rebate on these, my Vito Dualiner has the same benefit.

As the main market for pickup trucks is the USA I doubt that tax implications in the UK would have been much of a consideration.
