Hello all,

I did a couple of checks today and the mileages are now showing before 2011.

I think they've been updating the site lately, must have taken some considerable time to transfer all of the info.

These systems are continually being updated. This is after all a data base and as such only as good as the data that is on it.

I take it this information is now available on the DVLA website?

Its such a great resource when buying a new car.

i love being able to see when a car fails an MOT, and then the next year it fails on the advisories from the previous year, meaning that the owner has been skimping on maintenance!

It really is a great resource, I've been using it since 2006 when it was introduced, saved me from many mistakes.

It's been a pain in the last six months whilst the mileages were not showing before 2011, I bought my Z a few months ago and was unable to check the total history before I went to view. Luckily it was genuine and all went well.

But the new site is even better, you no longer need the doc ref number to do the check, just reg number and make. It saves you having to ask the seller for the ref number from the log book which is good because many people got funny when you asked because they thought you was diss trusting them.

I wonder how long this will last, as i doubt not many people have given the DVLA permission to share information about their cars, I can see that V5 number coming back in soon...

So, by that, you wouldn't want to see the previous M.O.T. mileages on a test certificate of a car that you may want to buy, as it helps verify the accuracy of the mileage history? I guess you can only please some of the people some of the time.;)

Depends on who owns the information collected during an mot.

I'm all up for it, makes everything transparent

I can go on a site to see if a car is taxed or tested with just the reg. no and make, but I cant print a copy of a history without the vin no and reg. no. why? I don't get that.

Just do a screen dump...if it won't let you print, create a JPEG of your screen.

I'm talking about the DVSA system Rich, sorry for the assumption that you would realise what I'm on about. I can't print details which are freely available to "Joe Public" is what I meant.

What's next your financial records, your phone records, your internet history, it all makes it transparent as you say...as soon as you give an inch they will take a mile, some things are best left private, or we may as well be Russian...as far as I am concerned my information is my information and I should decide who has access to it...

That's ok mate, this is quite an emotive subject, who should have free access to personal information and what constitutes personal information, it's quite subjective...

We have always assumed that VOSA as it was wanted to collect data to sell as some of the things you were obliged to tell them, although relevant to the test weren't necessarily needed to complete the certificate.

Some thing are best left private, I think mot results for a car is 100% fine.

Imagine if they start sharing my nandos card details. I've worked hard for those free chicken wings

I want to see them because I'm out buying cars every week, but now anyone can do the check without permission of the owner, my agree is that I think they may revert back to the old system where you need the doc ref number from the V5, simply because of the massive increase of traffic on the website.

Having said that, most of the cars I come across these days that have been clocked had the nasty deed done before they were three years old so don't show on MOT records.
