It was time for my other car's MOT and there was a stone chip on the passenger side of the windscreen. Although it wouldn't be a failure on that side, I thought i would get it fixed and got Autoglass to come out and do their chip repair. The Autoglass guy was at pains to point out that it was a structural repair rather than cosmetic (probably because you could still see it).

Anyway, in for MOT and I get a pass with defects - Repair as soon as possible (minor defects) - windscreen damaged but not adversely affecting driver's view.

Well I tried......

That one should be at most an advisory and not a minor defect.

The more I hear about MOT centres and how they actually determine what’s what, it appears a subjective rather than uniform, follow the guidelines approach is favoured. Surely this can’t be the case?

Oddly Godly

Same happened to me on my last mx5. The trouble is that if visible after the repair it will still be pointed out. It made no long term difference someone put a brick through it anyway

Shocking! So a new window was needed which hopefully will see it sail through the next MOT.

My old MX-5 was dissolving from the inside. At the previous mot it had about fourteen advisorys rust rust and more rust. To be fair it was a cheap stop gap that lasted three years. But after having mx5s since 1996 I decided a change was in order and got my Z3. I don't regret it.
