A guy in the US is working on bases to adapt Mini mirrors to fit the Z3, I always thought they would be a good look as an alternative to M mirrors.

Just hope he does a RHD version.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between RHD and LHD mirrors? Surely any difference is related to glass angle and is handled by the motors?

I skimmed through the article and they talk about the twist mechanisms being too stiff and impossible to twist with the mirrors off the car - that is nonsense, they clearly had a seized set. I am no expert but have restored three different pairs of Z3 (non-M) mirrors and after a bit of grease the twist mechanism is absolutely fine and easy to turn by hand, even off the car.

From what I have learned over the last 18 months the secret is to keep folding them in and out every few weeks and not to let them seize up.

LH on a RHD car are convex, RH is flat. On a LHD car, it's the opposite way around.

You can get away with convex on both, but flat on both makes the field of view very restricted on the distant mirror.

Not the case if you check any passengers door mirror it is angled in towards the driver…..think about it if it wasn’t you’re have to move he mirror round so far you’d run out of adjustment.

Just to sure I’ve checked the Zed and my Range Rover which has powered mirrors and the passenger side takes less time to fold than the drivers because it has less distance to travel.

Remember back in the day when I had Capri 2.8 injection which had a remote adjustment drivers mirror and standard passenger mirror which was smaller and looked odd, people tried the drivers mirror from LHD Capri’s but couldn’t get the adjustment to see anything out of it…….but at least they matched👍
