Now Dino’s Zed is out the shed going through commissioning we can finally get Millers M in for a complete strip down. This will include stripping the rear subframe down to bare bones for powder coating and removing the gearbox for shift pins and a fresh clutch, up front it will be new wishbones and various links along with some fancy KW coilovers all round. Tomorrow I need to go through all the goodies Miller threw in the boot. We’re also going to do something new with Millers Zed, we’re going to see how our powder coaters gets on coating a rocker cover and plenum box.

Tomorrow we begin the tear down :D

Nice to see an M that gets used. Great colour that.

Will be interesting to see how the juicy KW feel - is it the adjustable bump/rebound type?

Oooh nice parts!

Apologies mine took up long term residence in the Zshed:bag:

looks like you have all the main parts so no waiting for spares...however long it takes it’s always worth the wait.
With that lot and fresh bushes (i image your rear bushes are total shot by now!) it’ll be a different car!

When the world returns to normal we should do a ‘Zedshed’ special group test in wales, like an EVO group test to test all the various Zedshed cars back to back and publish our ‘group test’ findings :bookworm::ymdevil:

I love seeing all the nicely powder coated bits you put on the zeds but I can't wait to see the rocker cover & plenum box done. We powder coated the rocker cover on my 1.9 last October & it looks fab, really lifted the whole engine bay so a 'mod' well worth doing
What colour powder are you going for @Lee & @miller1098?

Unless Miller states otherwise I’m going to ask them to try and colour match it.

Today went smoothly we managed to make a good start removing everything I can honestly say I’ve never worked on a car that smells like a farm and even I now smell like a farm she’s very crispy and muddy underneath.

First things to remove are the wheels this then allows us a view on what we’re up against. I think Miller might want to get these wheels refurbed soon we can take care of this if needed.

rear shocks are totally gone. I could wiggle them side to side by hand, the discs look bad but there’s no lip at all so it’s just light surface rust. Next up we removed the exhausts these didn’t cause any issues but it did show some more crispy bits :D

With the exhaust out the way it was full steam ahead. The rest didn’t take long to come off and nothing really gave us a fight.

on the drive home it felt like driving blancmange and I can now see why even the top mounts had collapsed.

Miller also said the temp sensor in the car stopped working a while ago, these are located in the rear drivers side arch and you can see why :) also a shot of the dead beam bushes.

Only 3 hours into the build the whole lot was on the ground.

Tomorrow will be all these bits torn down further ready for powder coat. Removing the front end back as far as the subframe. If we get time we’ll also drop out the gearbox. Then everything will be ready for powdercoat Monday.

Is that a crack near the beam bush mount (top) or just the "underseal"?
