My son's VW Golf has been at the insurer's (Admiral I think) repairer for 4 months now following an accident where the driver's door got damaged. They have now advised him that they can't get a part for the repair within the next 12 months and so the car should be a write-off. I would have thought that you could get any part for a Golf within a couple of days?

Its rediculous, we have a large body shop near us that we pass regularly and the cars sit in the compound for months, it gets me that most of the owners of these cars are in hire cars that are going to cost more then the repairs to the cars
Oh and they atre charging the insurance company £15 - £25 per day for storage

I have a Mk2 Golf that will be 35 yrs old on 6/3, and I can STILL get parts for it!! If the Insurance Company want new parts, look at VWHERITAGE website
