ok here is some mods i have done so far -
first off my rear view fell off and i hadn't noticed until this happened how much space the original square rear view actually takes up, so i decided to free up more vision. made with paper and filler  i will update once posted with other mods i have done and or planning to do next.

dash cam, this is for - it was your fault incidents  i used the obsolete rear window demister circuit (obsolete because i sold my hard top mounts that were on the car when i brought it, didn't know they were there till i posted a picy on .net) got a good price too, so i actually paid less for my z than i original thought, result:thumbsup: i opened up the cigy power cable that came with the cam and wired it straight to the window feed, it comes on with the ignition. though this may change as im planning on running a small amp from this feed to add a subwoofer

that was the original intention, however its not quite so simple, a fair few z have electrics hidden in the rear view so it kind of derailed this idea, mine didn't so it worked out great for me.

the original intention was to swap my wood trim for a birds eye maple veneer, but getting time to do a foreigner on the vac press is almost impossible, then while waiting i was doing some googling and came across something called hydro-transfer or hydro-dip, wow this would be so much simpler. just dip then lacquer the panels, the only problem here is in order to get the high def is to buy from the states unless some one here knows differently. birds eye maple as in the pic

Just been talking about this very subject with Roy @Rha and Ant @Antm72 . I'm sure Ant said that there's a company in Doncaster doing Hydro-dipping now ?

thanks tony, there are quite a few around. car manufacturers have been using this method for quite a few years, the problem i have is finding a good high definition film. there is a fair few in the states but i cant find any here, it might well be easier to get someone else to do it for me, like the ones you have suggested. If i can find a good film i would like to have a go myself as it looks real fun, a bit like de-molding a laminate (always the most exiting part) The steering wheel is slightly different though, it would be made of wood ply then dipped but i also need to find a donor wheel, not so easy when everyone wants decent money for them (understandably so) but i cant justify spending this kind of money on a wheel that will get cut up as a guinea pig. though saying that mine is starting to get a bit tired (was considering one of those re-colouring kits on flea bay) But first things first - clock surround in walnut as i have a few people lined up to buy them, i can then use the walnut on my car while i play around with the birds eye idea.

my next mod will be moving my footwell lights under the seats, hoping it will give a warmer glow than how they are now. I have a second set that are powered by the ashtray light, these are dimmable and look real good dimmed down abit, so I'm hoping the other set will look better hidden under the seats. The dimmable set is real handy as I can turn them right up if I drop something into the footwells.

Update on the mirror please that looks awesome. I recommend that you mount the dash cam up high behind the mirror. This will give a great view of the road, not obstruct your vision of the road. You can run the wires up the A pillar and under the plastic strip at the top of the windscreen. :)

the mirror is complete, mine had no electrics inside so it was a straight swap, easy. some z have the immobiliser or is it the central locking receiver in them so not so simple as the mirror is not hollow. I will be upgrading the dash cam for one of those smaller ones that attach to the back of the rear view mirror, then I may make use of the current cam for a rear view cam, all-round coverage.

i had forgotten this thread until just now, thanks to another member asking a question. well the mad mods have been quiet for a while, the wood speedo suround is still moving along but very slowly as im currently revamping the kitchen (taking up valuable time (and is flippin cold outside) im also snowed under (get it;)) moving work places, its real mad right now. But i do have more mods planned, first and easiest is to move the foot well lights (under seat), this is quick and easy and i think will look real good, after this im planning a sub install (due to the fact my cheapo stereo is playing up (some buttons are not working) so i thought hey may as well go the whole hog seeing as my Z has a fresh mot so is good for a while yet. this is along side my wood upgrades so roll on spring:)
