Well that time has come round again and after a year of absolutley trouble free motoring the Mot came up.
First one in my car and has been a funny day.
Booked it in with a local garage i had used for a previous car and they seem a good bunch so took it in this morning and sat chatting with the owner.
The tester came in and asked if the car was mine i said it was an commented hopefully this year the car will sail through and not get an aborted test like the previous car when it exploded a brake flexy on the test !!:bag:
So in it went......20160427_112839.jpg
10 mins in and yep you guessed it sorry mate we're going to have to abort the test as our test equipment (rolling jack ) won't go under your car :banghead::banghead:
They advised id probably struggle with it but having had low cars in the past thought it not to be the case.
They kindly gave numbers of another test centre and 3 hours later the car passed :):)
Two advisories both slight play in the lower ball joint but in honesty i have suspected them since summer. When the car was ran on a hot day (I think i remember one of those) the ball joints must have been a little dry as they creaked after a run on lock the minute you cooled them with the hose the noise vanished.
Not heard anything from them over the winter so it was kind of nice to get play advised as they where on the list of things to do and i can spend the money and refresh the front end now i know alls well.
A good day

Nice one mate. Always good news when You get a pass. Bottom ball joints seem very common. Mines had a few according to the history. Can I ask what your co2 reading was as yours is the same engine and year as mine cos I struggle on this every year?

Well done @Antm72 at least it's passed.

The rover went through this week with a couple of advisories.

Just corroded brake pipes.

Not sure @Grumpy i wasn't present for the test and i only have the certificate given to me he just said it was very well looked after and it showed. It was one of my worries but the weekend gave it a few hundred mile blow out .
The lower joints always show a little play and it wasn't excessive so just told me he had advised.

My MOT is tomorrow :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:
Last year had an advisory on a misting front shock and its shown on the years prior too, so I'm hoping it will be the same this year and one of the jobs on the to do list.

We often have this issue Ant, but usually it's the brake rollers which are the problem, allowing the front bumper to catch the surround of the rollers. If they can get it onto the ramp all they have to do is run it onto a couple of bits of something like a scaffold baton to lift the car a couple of inches to get the beam Jack under the car. They don't have to use the rolling brake testers just the decelerometer to test brake efficiency. I don't understand why people turn these jobs away for want of being a little creative.;)

It passed over the brake tester fine i suggested they ran it up on some chocks but was advised he could only test it with mot test equipment and would not do it !!!?!?!

That's b*******s mate, the testers manual simply says raise the front\rear of the car it doesn't state anywhere what you can/can't use. Some 4x4 vehicles require much more lift under the chassis to get the rear wheels clear of the ramp deck than ANY jacking beam has to offer. Guess he has more work than he needs mate?

No not the case they got me in early and after me the bay was empty till after lunch.
He simple replied he could not raise the car other than with the jacking beam as it was the mot tooling if it had been ran up on a 2" plank it would have been fine.
It was a pit and the jacking beam ran along a 3" raised angle iron, i have seen far lower set ups on other mot's .
Maybe he wanted a long lunch =))

We had similar problems where I work mate, when I started there, there were 3 four post ramps including the M.O.T. ramp on which the jacking beams ran the length of the ramp on a turned up edge We also struggled with lowered cars which, 14 years ago were becoming more common, so I suggested burning of the turned up edges of these 3 ramps and replacing them with lengths of 2"x2" angle iron turned down and welded to the ramp. Made a huge difference to clearance under the ramp. Some people just don't have any imagination.;)

It looks like a test bay thats not been changed in years fittinv the angle bead the other way up would give 3 inch further clearance.
Family business all quick jobs for them tyres exhausts servicing and Mot work they are too busy to do anything big anymore. I suppose they can pick and choose.
