Lucky if somewhat dumb guy.
People seem to think that it’s ok to tow a caravan at the same speed as without. They are inherently unstable in certain conditions - all down to having the wheels in the centre of the caravan allowing the hitch to act as a pivot. That is driven by the nose weight limit at the hitch.
Cars should be automatically restricted in speed as soon as a trailer electrical connection is made. The problem is that when a wobble starts, often the only way to stop it is to accelerate out of it.
A two axle with articulated front would be far safer, but then there are differently licence requirements for towing such a vehicle.

It was a good bit of kit Tony, I think you can get stabilising hitches nowadays, dont tow these days so out of touch.

My parents caravanned from 1975 through to the late 90's. Ultimately something similar happened although the car survived. My dad was still OK with it but my mum was shocked enough to decide she had, had enough.

I have a fondness for caravan holidays but a static is more my thing when (which is not really that often) we do.

Yup friction clamp on towball and electronics that apply caravan brakes if it detects any sway. But still doubt it would have fully controlled that as he was going way too fast. Speed limit is 60 on dual and 50 on main roads now.

Ours has factory towbar and when caravan plugged in it enables more sensitive traction control on the car now.

Scary stuff. I notice the driver of the vehicle in which the dashcam was fitted didn't leap out to investigate or help......
Nor did many of the cars going the opposite direction.

Tw@tery is best left alone.

There seems to be a few people around the car, camera not quite pointing the right way to catch them. And if that happened in front of me, I would try to sneak my car past the damage before seeing what I could do, could be there for hours while the mess gets swept up otherwise.
