I've noticed some scuffs on my steering wheel which has confused me for a few weeks. Realised yesterday that it's the zip on the pocket of my shorts catching the wheel when getting out of the car. (I have to have the seat right forwards as I've got short legs )

The scuffs are rough to the touch and annoying when using that part of wheel when driving.

Any one have any suggestions if the roughness can be removed from the scratches. I don't think they will repair, but if they were less rough it would be fine.

In response to the question i advise the following:

1) Wear Shorts without zips
2) Wear stilts and move the seat back
3) Wear gloves so you don't feel the scuffs
4) Get out of the car backwards

In all honesty all you can do is sand the affected area down and apply a black dye, or send it off to Royal Steering Wheels for a face lift

I think it will end up going back to Royal for another refurb. I've got some really fine sandpaper so will give that a try, maybe wrapped round the tip of a pencil to localise it.

As for being short, not much I can do. Probably wearing different shorts will be the best way forwards!

Try putting Connollys leather moisturiser onto the wheel. Give it a real thickish coat all over and leave in the sunshine for a few hours. Then wipe off with a soft cloth.

Absolutely brilliant for seats as well stops a lot of the issues of ageing before they start cracking. Brings them up a treat without the hassle of dying.

Not heard of that so will look it up later. Anything to get the wheel a bit better to the touch. It's amazing how a couple of minor scratches can feel so rough to the fingers!
