Hey All,
as you may know I bought this new to me Z3 last month. Just got around to taking some photos before I sent it off to the mechanic for the mother and father of a service and some bodywork. The pics show it how I got it minus the hard top which is currently resting in my kitchen much to the enjoyment of my two cats who are using it as their own private cave!. As mentioned the car has gone to my mechanic and the list I gave him includes the following works:

  • FULL INSPECTION TWO SERVICE
  • REPLACE BRAKES WITH BLACK DIAMOND DISCS AND PADS
  • NEW BRAIDED BRAKE HOSES
  • FULL BRAKE FLUID FLUSH AND REPLACEMENT
  • GREEN PERFORMANCE AIR FILTER
  • NEW WATER PUMP (Metal Impellers)
  • NEW THERMOSTAT (Aluminium)
  • COOLANT FLUSH AND REPLENISHMENT
  • ALL NEW BELTS
  • REPAIR BROKEN AIR FLOW CONTROL
  • REPLACE MISSING ENGINE AND FUSE BOX COVERS
  • REFILL AND CHECK WINDSCREEN WASHERS
  • NEW WIPERS
  • NEW PLUGS
  • NEW FUEL FILTER
  • ALL NEW BULBS FOR ALL LIGHTS
  • CHECK CONDITION OF ALL FOUR TYRES, REPAIR SLOW PUNCTURES IN TWO AND BALANCE AND TRACK
Bodywork on the car is good overall but as you can see from the photos the rear passenger side corner has been scuffed and lightly cracked so needs to be repaired and the rear wing on the same side has blemishes on the paintwork which can only be put right with a respray so the bodyshop are going to:

  • REPAINT PASSENGER SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL
  • REPAIR AND PAINT REAR BUMPER
  • REPLACE AERIAL GROMMET WITH NEW ONE
  • PROVIDE A BOTTLE OF TOUCH-UP PAINT FOR LITTLE CHIPS ELSEWHERE.
After that its going to my stereo specialist to have the old Business tape deck replaced with my Kenwood KVT920DVD flip-out head unit. I would also like them to remove the CD changer from the boot to free up space but am not sure how easy it is to replace the carpet with the one from a no-changer model. I am going to see what upgrades they can do on the speakers as well and get them to double check the alarm as there seems to be a problem with the sensors on the factory alarm. Curiously there is also a spurious alarm fob on the keyring which i'll get them to investigate.

When all that dirty work is done it will go to a detailing guy that I have seen wonderful reports from on Facebook. He seems to have the attention to detail that I have without my paralysing laziness! I'll get more photos up once all the work is done. I am not planning any modifications per se but am definitely in the market for the BMW Wind Deflector if anyone has one for sale please message me. I am also ever so slightly considering having the wheels repaired and painted in a very very dark gold which I think would complement the car beautifully. Not sure I will pull the trigger on that one though until next year. We shall see.

You're probably doing well out of the weak pound?

Didn't really come into the equation. Car was very cheap, only €2,500!

Parts etc will be taken care of by my mechanic.

It's amazing the value in Z3's over here. There is a 2002 1.9 Sport with only 65,000 miles for sale for only €2,750 too.

Great looking car. I like your seats. I see you've got the hard top fitting kit too.
