SOLD Interesting Z3 3.0 project suited for kit build - guide price £1,000

I've been offered a 3.0 which is a nice solid car but does not lend itself to restoration, however it's way, way too good to break.

To my mind its destiny is to be reborn as a kit (ie Ferrari or Cobra).

At the moment I don't have space for another car but I do need a fresh intake of spares for my own projects.

So I'm putting the word out to see if anyone is interested in hooking up in a deal. I'll buy the car and strip it of all the usual things not required for a kit build (panels etc). But I'll need someone to take away it away pretty quickly after that.

I wouldn't bother if this was anything less than a 3.0. But these are particularly sought after for kit builds and the donor price is usually prohibitive.

I can't be sure of final price yet but it will be in the range £800-£1,200 with a target of £1,000. Nothing will be removed which the normal kit builder will require, eg doors or any running gear. That includes the LSD and driveshafts worth £500+ alone.

I could make a shed load of cash out of breaking this but I don't break viable cars.

Anyone interested please PM me this weekend as the opportunity will have passed after that and I'm not buying it without a 'partner'. No upfront cash required - I'll sort that. I just want a gentleman's agreement to take it due to the space constraints.

Don't want to share any more details here as the deal isn't yet concluded.

Also do you have any pictures of it? I'm to think how it could be so bad it wouldn't be worth buying a cheap 1.9 and rebodying it.

Well I went back on what I said about buying it without a sell-on partner and bought it myself anyway.

The plan is to remove the hardtop and chrome pack. Swap out the very nice walnut trim. Then check & service it and sell it on in a few weeks as more of a known commodity after I've enjoyed running it around Swansea. That will be quite poetic as it's where the car was supplied new from. So she's a proper Welsh gal, newly named Natasha

So if anyone fancies a tidy but high mileage (155k) 3.0 for 1.9 money then PM me. She's not a Sport but the 3.0s have the LSD anyway.

Well I thought it was a good price but at the same time a fair one to the seller.

The deals are out there. You just have to be prepared to do a lot of chatting to show you’re worth doing business with instead of the idiots who just take the mick.

It's just the mileage really. At 155k it still has many miles left in it but if you're going to sink a few quid into restoring a car you're less likely to do it with a higher miler compared to a lower miler.

It's potentially less concern to a kit car builder as 3.0s are an ideal base but rarely available at the right money. And since most private kit car builders intend to keep their car for a long time the mileage may not be so important if the rest of the car is a sound base.

I still think that's where this car's destiny lies. But by default I'll be giving it a good check over and service. Enjoying it for a while. Then if a kit car builder hasn't come along it will just go back out as a cheap and respectable way to enjoy a 3.0.

But I would be giving the wrong advice encouraging someone to buy it and spend big bucks restoring it. You need to be looking for a sub 100k miler really.

Better just to enjoy this car as is which is pretty good actually. Well it seems that way It's low owner, high spec, seems to have been well looked after and a significant chunk of those miles were put on in a 2 year period early in it's life, probably I would think as motorway miles. Since then it's done about 8k on average a year. Which suggests it's been a good steady performer that's aged gracefully. But my next job when I get it home is to check it's safe on existing suspension and brakes etc and if it's not decide what to do.

To be honest some would break it at that mileage. But I think it's way too good for that and deserves a helping hand to have another chance, hopefully with a forum member who's maybe on a budget once I've given it some love

Yes the UK probably has the cheapest supply of Z3s on the planet.

And Japan tends to have the nicest ones.

Its a worth while prospect if someone plans to keep it, as we all know 150k is nothing on the 6 pots, I'm still tempted
