How to supply extra air to Simota???

I have read up on Mike Fishwick`s excellent write up on extra air ducts(which i did on my 1.9) but as the Simota is pressed up against the back of the headlight on my M, how are you supposed to give it extra ,even enough, of cold air. I have just purchased a flexible pipe and housing to add more air but cant see the point.. :-? any ideas please s

The ///M already has ducting from the bumper that comes out next to the headlight and into the Simota. Thats why ///M don't have fog lights as the place where these would be has the extra brake ducting which on the nearside also splits to the engine bay ie you don't need to do Mike's fix on an ///M ;-)

You could always fit airscoops to the bonnet X_X

Its funny you saying that, the cold air its seems faster
Years ago and i mean years ago, I own a 998 Austin Mini Cooper
On damp mornings it was always more reponsive and seemed faster s
Somebody told me that it was the moisture in the mixture? being twin carbs

I am told it sounds great after the revs reach 3/4k

i have heard of people having the odd niggle after fitting them

I fitted a Simota to my 6cyl 2.0, and the engine feels even smoother than before. It's not so much a noticeable power increase, but an even more drivable engine.

Cold air is denser, so contains more oxygen. Mine always drove better on a cold morning. With the Simota and stainless exhaust it drives better all the time! s:ymtwisteddevil

Ray i think you'll find itll be abit more responsive as there will be less restriction in the airflow.. But you wont get big changes untill you add a free flow exhaust and a remap..

I fitted the Simota and hadnt noticed much because the car has always been fast. but as Liam said, and i am looking into it, have a re-map and exhaust could give you substantial gains, if one needs it. :ymparty: :ymparty: :ymparty:

A remap may not necessarily give you more bhp but more responsive engine if you use a good one.

Cold air basically gives you more bang for your buck so a sports car will always feel faster on a cold morning. The whole point of heat shielding on the induction is to keep the air as cool as possible so the colder it is to start with the better. That's why a sunny winter Sunday morning run is always more fun ;-)

i did drive it in the cold once and it did feel faster, so what you say is correct. But i am afraid its only sunny summer mornings for me. B-) I think as long as i am happy with the amount of air getting to the simota is sufficient then i will be happy.. Just concerns me that the Simota is very tight up against the headlight s

its not as tight as the standard box was...
Get your M out on the next dry day Paul.. it wont hurt it..

As well as cooling the incoming air (to densen it), you should consider keeping the heat in the exhaust system by lagging (to make it less dense).

Why exhaust wrapping helps performance

Keeping the exhaust gas hot (less dense) makes it easier to expel.

It's supposed to be that way it sucks in less warm engine heat ;-)

As i did sucessfully on my 1.9, i put connected the front of the hose to the inside of the bottom bumper vent and put it up through past the headlight and clipped it to the bodywork next to the filter. Very easy as there is plenty of room.
