This is how I raise my Z4 in a step by step guide. Applicable to a Z3 also and many other vehicles.
1. Select a flat, level area and apply the parking brake and select P if it's an Auto.
Remove all/any nut/bolt covers.
Loosen the wheel fixings using a long bar.
Or, if you have an impact wrench, just use it on the high setting. My Ryobi tool has 3, so I use 3.
2. My car requires me to run a rear wheel onto a wooden block the gain access to the rear jacking point on the sill.
When you have access to the rear jacking points chock one of the front wheels at both sides of the tyre.
Now release the parking brake and select N if an Auto.
3. At the rear on a Z4 there are 2 stiffener bars which mount at the centre rear of the floor, this is where to jack up the car (DO NOT JACK ON THE BARS)
When you're high enough place stands under the jacking pads on the sills and lower the car onto them.
Lower and remove the jack. Rear end is done.
4. Move the jack to the front and jack up on the jacking pad on the sill. While doing this the rear may lift off the axle stand, this is normal and nothing to worry about.
Place an axle stand under the end of the alloy cross brace (use a flat stand or a piece of wood)
When you lower the jack the rear end will sit back down on the axle stand.
At the other side front repeat the same actions and remove the jack. Then you have the car sitting on 4 axle stands and you can remove the wheels.
To get the car back down onto it's wheels it's just a case of doing these operations in reverse. When fitting the wheels just "nip" the wheel fixings and tighten them when the wheels are back on the ground.
