Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about seeing Morris Minors at the side of the road with one front wheel jammed up into the wheelarch.Or being left stranded when the lower. Trunion sheared off.
Tony.
Not only Morris Minors, I ave changed the front upright on a Spitfire more than once. One time on the way to work, only cost me about an hour..Or being left stranded when the lower. Trunion sheared off.

And regular "de cokes" too.Big end bearings lasting 20,000 miles, pleased we've moved on from that sort of spec
Decokes. Now there's a memory. Head off, valves out, scrape the carbon off the valves and out of the ports. Oh what fun....And regular "de cokes" too.
Tony.
Improvements in oils and fuels by far the biggest influences I would say Rob. I have many memories of de coking tractor engines as an old boy back in the early 70's.Decokes. Now there's a memory. Head off, valves out, scrape the carbon off the valves and out of the ports. Oh what fun....
As a boy In the mid 70s I worked in an engine reconditioning shop for a while. Many cars (Fords, BMCs and Vauxhalls) that came in with kn*ckered engines had done less than 50 thousand miles. Improvements in engine design, materials, machining precision and lubricants have changed the life expectancy of engines beyond recognition.
