The latest eye opener I saw this week, on a Renault Laguna (Yes there still a few around :()
In for test on Monday, I noticed a clunk when my assistant rocked the steering and at the nearside this is what I found.

Something missing? Here's the O/S.

The N/S front lower suspension arm front mounting bolt had no nut on it and was free to move all over the place.

Must've been a real pig to drive.:(

Eventually mate, the only other fault was the O/S/F position (side) light out.

Tony.

ps. These are special nuts which have a collar machined on them to centralise the bolt in the hole.

It's normally the nut behind the steering wheel that's the problem =))

Wow! Ok let's put this into perspective. I can totally understand someone not mechanically minded not realising the nut was missing. I can't understand how someone could feel that the car was driving ok and submit it for an mot. But what gets me the most is how anyone could ever possibly want to own a Renault Laguna! :wideyed:

Some people love driving, some see it as a necessary chore, these are the ones that do stupid things behind the wheel and drive stupid cars!

I'd be more interested who left the nut off or failed to secure it so it fell off. That looks potentially negligent if it was a garage.

As for the driver not realising. Some people just aren't tuned in to stuff like that. Or perhaps it was someone who knew and was burying their head in the sand as they didn't have the money for what they thought was an expensive repair.

Personally I spend my entire time behind the wheel listening and feeling for issues. Even on my 6 month old car.

My biggest frustration is telling garages about noise/feel issues on my daily drivers then they tell me nothing is wrong when I know that can't be true. Fortunately on the Z3s there's tons of help for any issue on here. I guess Laguna forums aren't so popular.

I had a Laguna GT in the 90's as a company car (forced on me) as the boss did not like me visiting clients in my Merc.
The French first build a 3 piece suit and then think 'oh, we have to build the car as well.'
Don't get me started on the Megane they gave me after that.
God, I hate French cars.
