Not had one of these for while, saw these "slicks" on a Peugeot 3008 which I tested this morning at work, and just to rub it in, the O/S one was through to the cords nearly all the way round on the inside.

Both front Tyres were like this,

O/S with cord hanging out.
The N/S/R was on 0.5 mm

and the good tyre was on the legal limit at 1.6mm
Makes my tyres look almost new;)

I had my works van serviced a couple of weeks ago and was advised that my front tyres were down to just under 3mm. I told them to put new tyres on but they said that they can't change them unless they are below 2mm. I had them checked again in the week and they are currently at 2.5mm.
I'm currently doing over 600 miles a week and I'm concerned that I could soon be driving with slicks but the hire company are adamant they wont authorise new tyres yet.

He was very lucky too Pete, these cars have an odd size of tyre and we didn't have any, let alone 4. Someone was dispatched across town to collect some and I had to stay late at work to re-test it! Like I said VERY lucky.;)

Point out to them that insurance companies frequently now attribute some liability to you if the tyres are under 3mm. Just being legal isn't sufficient. By refusing to change them they are taking on liability where the insurance refuses. That includes you personally. Put it in writing to them that they either change them or accept full and complete liability for going against insurance company recommendations. You cannot accept any liability because you have asked for them to be changed.

Good point Ian, I wasn't aware of that, I'll send an email to our vehicle controller and copy in the MD

I used to work for a company whose vehicles were all lease hired and we could only use authorized tyre centres , policy was tyres could only be changed when below 2mms.

Looks like the car is owned by someone with little thought for car safety essentials?
