A young woman brought this 08 plate Corsa it to have some front tyres fitted this morning. The tyre fitter (after fitting the tyres, obviously:mad:) told her that the front subframe was badly corroded and wasn't safe to drive!

A bit of understatement I thought and I told her I wouldn't even drive it away, guess what she did?
Around the same time I had A 57 plate Corsavan in for test, when I refused to test it due to the whole frontend being caked in mud it was begrugingly taken back to it owner's yard and cleaned. When I got it back on the ramp this is what I found So vindicating my refusal to test.

This amongst a load of other issues.

Like many cars Mike, they're either very good or extremely bad.:(

The van would've been borderline to be fair Mike, and I likely tested, it but these vans work on building sites all year round and are plastered with mud 365 days a year which can accelerate corrosion. The Corsa car? God knows on that one, maybe Ray Charles tested it.

Failed a Corsa last week with the subframe on the offside holed and corroded pretty much exactly the same.
Guy took it away appeared back 2 days later all welded together had to admit repair was probably better than original ( Brought it up from welders to let me see the repair before the subframe got undersealed ,)

Can't say fairer than that Steve. The one on the van is definitely repairable but the one on the car, No.

It just shows how easy the old Land Rovers ser 1's are for chassis and body repairs.
They are also easy to pressure wash to keep in good order, although never buy one that's lived on a cattle farm.

For these examples, bad corroded is a very kind appreciation:D...they look more as recovered from the Dead Sea! Never seen such corrosion stage in an oldtimer!
Definitely scrap yard is the best solution!
Only if people would understand...:(

Wow! That corsa car rot is shocking. Never been a Vauxhall fan but wouldn't expect a 10 year old car now days to suffer like that.

I think the main problem is that 95% of car owners never think of car maintenance and Never check what is going on under the car, probably because they are just not interested.
Just as well we have MOT’s to keep these potential death traps of the road. ( and keeps the drivers alive !!!!)
