Hard top fitting queries.

Hello chaps.

Perhaps you can help?

I have a facelift 3.0i Z3. The car did not come with a hard top.

Before the questions, a few assumptions.

1) I actually have a hard top.
2) I actually have a fitting kit (the Holly Grail) for fixing the hard top to the car.
3) I actually have the switch that is used to turn the hard top heated screen on and off.

The above being the case, here are the questions.

1) What else do I need to get the heated screen (in the hard top) to work?
2) Is the wiring loom for the heated screen pre-fitted to the 3.0i Z3?
3) If I need extra bits then are they still available and where can I source them?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Andy.

You would need an extra small loom to be able to connect the hardtop heated screen switch wiring to the cars wiring. I think it is part #61108400220,
about £20 from the dealer.

The main wiring for the switch will be found taped up behind here. If the car did not have a hardtop, there will be a blank in this position.

Hi,

Just to be clear. If the car did not originally have a hard top and switch, will the wiring loom still exist behind the blank?

Cheers.

Andy.

Yep, should be there, all Z3 had a common loom.

I have had a hardtop pretty much permanently fitted to my Zed for the last 4yrs and have never really needed to use my heated rear window so it is something you can live without if you can't get it to operate

Although I have the wiring and switch fitted, I have never used the heated rear window. I have hardly used the hardtop either. :)

Hello chaps,

Thank you to everyone who has commented on this. I really appreciate it.

I think I have found a hard top and fixing kit. I will look into the other bits in the coming weeks.

Cheers.

Andy.

I've got a spare harness to connect the heated screen if you want it (message me and I'll chuck it in the post) and I would be incredibly interested in borrowing the little plastic spacers for aligning the top if you have actually managed to source those (I might have a go at creating a 3D printed version as well if I get my hands on some)

Cheers

the thickness of the gauge not including the leg that apparently rests on the body panel is 6mm and including the leg is 12mm.

Yeah should do - as long as you have the right switch - being facelift it should be round like the picture above. Assuming you have an electric roof, the wiring that you connect at that end is all next to the harness up there so no need to pull carpets back etc. As mentioned above, at the switch end the wiring should be taped to the cross member under the black panel (which pulls out.

I think this is the correct relay. I hope there is a space in the fuse box for it.
