Signed my name on the dotted line yesterday! I am now the IT & Information Security Manager for an Oxford based company.

Came as a bit of a surprise, as I was only supposed to be visiting once a week to help them out. That one day became two days a week, and then they asked me if I wanted to make it permanent. The best thing about this new job is that it's 4 days a week, so allows me to keep my own self business stuff running - such as being a Director of ZRoadster Ltd.

Won't bore you all with what I'm doing, cause it's mainly techy IT stuff and I know how your eyes glaze over when I start.

Feels odd to be back on a salary after just over 4 years. Roll on payday at the end of the month

Best of both worlds Gaz,a lot to be said for a regular guaranteed income and as you said you can still keep your business going....or have 3 days a week enjoying your zed

I got a new job, not stopped being a tight git... :ymdevil:

Will you be commuting ever day then Gaz?
I can work from home if it's something I don't need to be in the office for. A lot of the work is documentation based, and that can generally be done anywhere.

Congrats on the regular employment mate, chuffed for you, working from home cuts costs too so that's great.:) I hope to cut my working hours at the end of this year, but after last weeks revelations I'm not too sure they will keep their word. We'll see ;)

Tony.

Congratulations - Sounds quite a responsibility with all those theiving so and so's out there trying to nick or compromise your data. Amazing also how irresponsible and cavalier some staff are with what is commercially sensitive, operational or even secret information.

Best of luck!!!!

@Redline so true when it comes to security People are the weakest link - the number of users willing to give there password out is scary. People say to me how do i make my computer safe, easy dont turn it on - and dont connect to the internet PMSL

These guys are pretty well on the ball and are ISO27001 certified. All laptops/desktops are securely encrypted so are effectively useless if left on the bus or stolen. Nice strict password policy, and you can't plug unauthorised devices in to machines as we run some software to block them unless they are authorised. Just rolling out multi factor authentication on some of their systems at the moment.

Security isn't an inconvenience if it's handled properly, and people are educated about it.

Wow your nearly there - sounds easy hard work been done - hope you evolved your backup from an religion based on faith and belief it will restore the systems to facts - and it does frequently " and here is the proof" - sorry I could rant on for ages on these soap box topics. Again well done - sounds you have the balance right. Life/time/salary

We run all those things except they still allow USBs to be used. Don't understand that.
Funny how many users though store data on their machines locally that isn't in an backed up area and the get upset when they lose years of work when their local drive goes bang. I sit next to one of the IT guys and we have a smirk at least once a month when somebodies encrypted drive lets go and can't be recovered. Doesn't help though that IT ration backup space to 2GByte. That's about 2 days for me. I bagged a 200GByte space.
We have multiple level security for the field laptops but all are on two stage authentication. We're getting about 2,000 different network attacks a day!
Two years ago IT went round the UK and collected all the Directors laptops on Christmas eve and into Christmas day when one was breeched due to misuse. Serious stuff.
