Took the pretty little thing out today with the Mrs (who IS the pretty thing, just not the one with staggered... help, I need to stop right here!), packed a couple of shotguns and cartridges in the boot (JUST about the right size) and went off to our clay shooting ground...

All went swimmingly well, apart from taking a stone *right* in the middle of the windscreen, from a fatass X5, no less. The interesting bit is that I took a stone in the windscreen of my X3 *also* on it's first outing, like 2 hours of ownership! There's a curse going on, I'm sure.

Anyway, made it back. Cleaned the car, in/out, so it feels like it's 'mine' (I'm sure you know what mean). Opened the engine bay again to have a look, pondered cleaning that (it's not terribly dirty to be honest)... closed the bay... cleaned the car... then I told Mrs Buze to have a look at the cool engine, tried to opened the bay and I'm sure you know by know.... realized the cable had snapped the first time around, and I can't open the bay anymore..

&$&*"(!()!")!(£$&$Y"&!()")$&£$&"(")&$£&!Q(")£$*$& (<- this is air turning blue)

So I'll post another thread to know what's the more 'recent' method of re-opening the bay without taking half the car off....

I still cleaned the car. So you get to see a few pretty pictures, thanks for being patient and reading up to here :)

Oh, I'll have also to create /another/ thread about my leather, which is 'different'. Oh, and also about cleaning the chrome bits.

I had this problem on my E46 and after much internet trawling, the only way to get in was to Pull out the kidney grills and cut through the bonnet lock pins. It sounds drastic but does work, new pins and cable from Sopers were not too expensive. I don't know if you can access the Zed cable thoroug the grills.

Hey Stacey, don't get me involved in this, I am in enough trouble as it is after last weekend.....;)
Mike - when were you not in trouble? ;)
@buze - lovely car. Hope you get the bonnet catch sorted. Someone will have a way of doing it.
Several people have suggested taking the kidney grills out. Can you elaborate? Do they just clip in and need the clips popping to get them out?

I went out last night in the dark to look at this problem. Main cable goes to drivers side latch. Another cable seems to go between the latches. If this second cable is pulled the passenger side latch I think will release. Both mechanisms are fairly robust and would really need to be cut in someway. Perhaps if the cable has broken in the passenger compartment it is possible to get to it and pull it with some pliers. A job perhaps for the Zed shed or someone to pop over to help with reference from another car

Thanks @raymond -- I've contacted the #zedshed crew, luckily they aren't at the other side of the country!
