Having read Shelley’s post the other day, I’m thinking about refreshing my car seats. How do I find out the colour match?!? I’ve been into RealOEM and can’t see where it states the colour. Also, if I treat the seats, will that show up the other areas such as the door cards?

I would think you would have to treat all areas, door cards etc. otherwise you'll notice a difference Dawn. No idea how to find out the colour match tho.

Good luck

Send them a sample off the door card, the bottom of your seat or from the gear stick or handbrake gaitor. They only need a very small sample to colour match. Someone here on the forum did this a while ago, but can't recall who it was

You've got 2 options Dawn. Send a sample off for a precise colour match or determine the colour from a VIN decoder. Or if you send me a photo I can probably tell from sight.

You do need quite a few bits and bobs to get up and running with a kit. And if you're going to do it properly it involves removing the sealing coat, recolouring and sealing again. And really it needs to be with a small air gun. It's not really a sponge job. Plus the seats need to come out. And I usually remove from the bases to repair the bolsters at the same time.

If you want a quicker patch up approach for areas of colour loss then have a look at their colour matched Balm product that can be rubbed in with a sponge per polishing shoes. It works okay for small areas.

@ktnez99 put your VIN in to mdecoder.com and you'll get your car spec
Mine comes out on this as Leather "Chamelon"/traum-rot although I thought it was Tannin red and oregeon leather, my error- BUT it also says its a left hand drive lol

They asked me to send a close up photo of the leather to them, what I got back was a near perfect match.

traum-rot means bright red. Chameleon is a bit like snake skin. Oregon is pimply. Two very different leathers. Are you sure you typed your VIN in correctly?

I think what has happened is that the previous owner had put tannin read on the seats, as I sorted some worn areas with furniture clinic tannin red and matched well. However the door panels, gear shift etc the red is defiantly brighter. Looking at the pattern its the Chameleon. The LHD thing is strange as Vin code is right and I have used another online checker and that one says RHD.

That’s 100% Chameleon. And to the best of my knowledge only came in Dream Red not Tanin Red. Not sure I’ve ever seen a non-Sport Chameleon in red btw. They are most commonly black or blue. After 20 years though all sorts of funny things can happen mainly discolouration and previous owners having a go. That’s why you either need to send a sample if you are touching up or redo the whole thing.

Furniture Clinic either didn’t do Dream Red at the time or I tried it and didn’t like it. So I did mine with their standard bright red. Which sounds ghastly but looks right.

These 2 pictures are the same parts. They show difference both light and sealing coat (lacquer), not yet applied in first picture, make. Hence why little can be judged from photos when it comes to matching.

Hi Robert. Just spent a few hours cleaning the interior of my Z and taken a few photos of the seats. Here’s the colour. Can you identify what it is please?

The leather is Oregon. And the colour is beige.
Thanks Robert. I’ll do some more research into this now I know the colour.
