Hi all,

I'm going to give my zed a present and plan to change all fluids (diff, gearbox, power steering and coolant).

I'm looking for advice on which ones to get as I don't want to just leave my local garage to make the choice.

Thanks

Hi what engine and diff do you have?

I found this information out if you go to the resources section of this website and there are some articles on the subject. I am doing this too.

I'd give Opie Oils a ring for the diff/gearbox oil recommendations. I can't remember who posted up recently about what they recommend, but they suggest something specific for the Z3...

OPIE recommended ATF for gearbox (all Zeds) and a Gulf performance LSD for the diff (If LSD) But I agree with @GazHyde give them a ring they are very helpful.

Thanks both,

I want to make sure I get it right as I think the oils haven't previously been changed and I'd rather spend the money now than have to double up later.

I'll get in touch with them.

Thanks again.

Yes @GazHyde is spot on, opie sent me Fuchs gearbox oil, and I used castrol syntrax for the diff, you can't go wrong with opie , great service all round from them, I've used them for ages, and will continue to do so.

I'm local to Opie oils depot so I'm going there tomorrow to get fluids. I'll let you know what I get but I think LSD and open diff take different oils

That'd be great. I'm not sure if I have LSD so I'll need to figure out if I do or don't.

Yeah I read ATF somewhere else and thought it seemed odd. I was going to see if there were any markings regarding the fluid on the gearbox.

Hi, I haven't got to Opie today however I will refer you some of the articles I found here which should help.

https://zroadster.org/articles/choosing-engine-oil-by-mike-fishwick.37/

https://zroadster.org/articles/bmw-oil-and-filter-changes-by-mike-fishwick.32/

https://zroadster.org/articles/transmission-oil-changes-by-mike-fishwick.31/

"A non-LSD final drive will be happy on most hypoid lubricants, such as Castrol SAF-XO. "

Have a read through those, they contain more useful information such as amounts required as well as part numbers for some seals and O rings that are recommended to be replaced on Oil change

For a definitive answer:

search on http://www.opieoils.co.uk/

Or contact them directly with your vehicle details and they are always spot on: 01209 202944 sales@opieoils.co.uk

They will always give 10% if you mention a BMW online forum.

Hope that helps.
