Here's a little rant. :mad::mad:

So nearly a month ago I put the Corsa up for sale on eBay as spares and repairs.

There were 52 watchers on the original ad and the bid ended with the highest bid being £460.

The buyer contacted me saying that he would come to collect the car the next day - he didn't - after this he re-arranged multiple times but never showed up.

I was a little disappointed as I'd just paid £10 for that advert and waited a week for the bid to run through.

Anyway, I then put the car back up on eBay for which I spent another tenner. This time the advert had 63 watchers! And ended today with the highest bid being £389...

I contacted the buyer and congratulated him immediately after the bidding had finished and asked if he would like to arrange a collection time. The response I got 'No sorry mistake'

What sort of a response is that?! Not an even an apology or an attempt at one!

Why bid on an item if you don't want to purchase it?

It would be a different story if it wasn't a bid and they just outright purchased the car on a buy it now basis and wished to cancel (as they may have a reason for doing so), however, waiting an entire week for the bid to run through only to find that the buyer doesn't want to purchase??!

You have the option to cancel a bid whilst the bid is running. Alternatively he could have contacted me and asked that he wanted to retract the bid, but he didn't!

Mind=Blown.

Rant over :whistle:

Glad that's out the system.

I've only ever sold one car before and that was on behalf of someone.

I have learnt one thing though, it's ridiculously easy to go and buy a car, there's tons of them, but when it comes to selling one there's always seems to be a struggle.

another thing to check is the highest bidder - does he have any listings? this happened to me once, not a car though but the highest bidder had his own listing of exactly the same item, I think he was trying to push the value of his item up, didn't even hear from him.

I used to sell lots of cars on ebay, but learned early on not to bother with auctions.

The problem with the auction is that you are going to be dealing with someone you haven't spoken to on the phone, so you're not able to suss out whether they're proper people.

I used classified ads with a fixed price and my phone number on so they had to call me.

If your Corsa made that sort of money then list it for similar money, fixed price, and put your phone number on so people can call you.

file complaints with ebay regarding both reneging bidders and request fee refunds.

You should get your fees back and they should get a black mark. Too many and they are supposed to be barred.

There you go @Faheem now you're aware of what you need to do and don't be a nice guy and worry about those guys getting banned. They give the whole system a black mark and too many people just let them off the hook. Likely hood is they''be done this before and will again. The sooner they're gone the better for everyone. It's a nightmare. Just sold a mobile phone on there and the buyer has been a ball ache from start to finish.
Sold it 2 days before as well and the buyer said his son had been messing with his phone and he didn't know about it. EBay will not refund me for that transaction only give me credit for forthcoming adverts! :mad:

Alternatively, enforce the binding contract they have entered into

read this http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/LEGAL-ADVICE-REGARDS-BUYING-AND-SELLING-/10000000001449898/g.html
Sorry, that's not right.

The description forms part of the contract.

If the description doesn't match the goods then the seller is in the wrong and will never enforce you to pay in a court.

Near the bottom it states

"For those of us who describe correctly and get annoyed at 'tyre kickers' this is the answer, it is easy and will work"

If someone buys your goods and refuses to pay get on it right away and file a non payment complaint case. Leaving it two weeks @littlefeller and then offering to let them cancel just reinforces that they can do this time and again with no repricussions. They spoil it for everyone buying and selling. @Paul M You were indeed correct, got the money back for the listing.

@Tfp Put the car up on a buy it now basis and it sold within an hour, buyer came today and put a deposit down. Happy days.
