First trackday in the Z3m Roadster

Well today was the first of many I hope in the Z3M Roadster.

Have been doing trackdays since the late 80's in all sorts of cars, at all different power levels as well but all rear wheel drive and petrol.

Today was F'ing cold so could not get tyres up to anywhere near the temp I would have liked them to be. This was the case with both
sets I tried.

But overall the Z did ok, however lots of room for improvement, so the long path starts
to get it the way I want it. Some will be cheap easy fixes other will require lots of £££££££.

The is lots of scope for improving the suspension setup from simple refresh as probably tired, to S54 oem parts to complete upgrade. H&R ARBs and better pads. Would be a good starting point and you can fine tune from there?

it all depends on how far you want to take it....its a bloody heavy for a car so small.
but i went down the Bilstein 8 route with H&R springs and a full suspension refresh ...massive improvement ....but the originals must have been worn

I will be going a full suspension upgrade route with poly bushes all round. Money being added to car fund as we speak.

i went to go with poly bushes myself but they pushed the front wheels forward to much and it just wasn't right so go some new OE ones instead ....let us know how you get on....

Confused here why poly bushes would have pushed front wheels forward, may I ask which make they were?

the powerflex ones....i gopt my indi to ordered them for the front and sure enough the wheels were more forward...not a great deal but enough for him not to fit them....he showed me pics and it just wasnt right

Thanks for this I do know powerflex do 2 types for the Z3 (PFF5-301 & PFF5-303), PFF5-303 are eccentric which allows you to change your caster, I am wondering if your indi order these instead of the non eccentric ones. This would explain why the wheel was moved forward. PFF5-303 are the ones that should be used on the M according to Powerflex.

he may have done...but he ordered them and they didnt fit right so i didnt pay for them (i will mention it to him next time im in their) ...but in all honesty im more that happy with the set up now.
i may have another look at them in the future but at the moment theres other things i want to do

Interesting thread. Am thinking of fitting Powerflex bushes to a 1999 1.9 Z3 . Which would be best 301 or 303? Thanks

301 is the normal front lower wishbone rear bush

303 is the eccentric one as fitted to "M"'s and allow increased caster

So it all depends on if you want to change your caster
