Felt lining around center vents

Hi all,

I replaced the head unit on my car, and realized after I put everything back together that I forgot to reinstall the felt lining that goes around the outside of the center vents, on the back side (the side closer to the engine).

Anyone know what this felt lining is for and whether I need to take it apart again to reinstall it?

Anti-rattle tape. You can be the judge of if you need to put it back.
