@t-tony Tony i thought I'd tag you into this as you may have an interest in it ( even though i know your planning on retirement soon) .

Now as a lot of members on here may know
One of the items introduced in the new Mot test in May was the introduction of new tighter limits for Tdi engines from 2014 on up until then the limit from 08 -14 is 1.50.
After 2014 the rules change a bit the default limit is 0.7. But if it has a manufacturers emmisions plate on the chassis number you must use that typically most cars Audi Merc bmw ford etc all have plate numbers around
0.5 like this bmw 116d

But what I have noticed certainly on the higher end cars I have seen of recent moving on a level again .
Tested a 65 plate Audi A6 other week had a plate number of 0.2
Tested a 65 plate bmw 320d on Tuesday that had a ridiculously low plate number should have taken picture but had a 66 plate 320d in for tyres today had the same plate number on it so managed to get a picture check out how low these are

Yes mate, have been using these values on tests, but, you still get (mainly) VAG cars which will not produce a reading anyway. So having wasted time getting oil temp. up to the minimum temp. and carrying out the test only for the car not to produce enough gas to trip the reading and having to fill out a sheet stating that there was no result from the analyser, I ask myself, WTF, was it worth it?
Don't get me started on this new MOT rules etc. what a waste of time and effort to take a huge step backwards.:(

Tony.

ps. I am not going to miss this.

Yeah know what you mean about vag group cars especially.
Like you say as they have dpf and rev limiter when not moving our Krypton analysers are the same you heat the car up for it not to register the throttle blip test then not letting you carry out the smoke test so you end up with 1 out of every 30 cars that pick up most annoying and time wasting and that's before I even get into the work related paperwork need to do getting to the stage where it feels that I can't just get on with my work without hundreds of mainly unneeded stuff to be done :(:(.
Yeah I need to follow you and retire Tony but it's my birthday next Saturday after that still got 19 yrs left .
A depressing thought indeed :grumpy::grumpy:

Hey mate, it's good to hear that it's not just me who feels that way, especially as we're looking to have less ties and oversight from Europe regarding our own governance. Also, not wanting to wish your life away Steve, I'll be happy for you when you too can look at calling it a day.

Tony.

I know how you feel, although I was already past mysell by date, it was the ever inceasing bureaucratic bullshit that made me retire from a job which I quite liked.
