It might not be as daft as you think. I can get red diesel for £1.20 per litre. Business gas and electric are not price-capped.

It's actually a good advert for electric cars. A petrol car will only run on petrol. An electric car will run on almost anything.

Might not be red, but it is cheap and the price makes you think it is duty free. It is pumped (it's for boats), not spare from a trucker's tank - that is even cheaper.

The point is that you can use any method that can generate electricity to power an electric car. I'm actually surprised that they are not using solar.

Red diesel is banned from use in plant so generators, diggers etc have to use white
Boats are still allowed to use red but we have to declare how much is used for propulsion and pay extra tax on this part.
Farmers are allowed red providing the vehicle is not used on the road, Farmers that do contract work should use white.
Its all a minefield.

If you can get it HVO is a good substitute for diesel (red or white) and at present the good thing is that there is no dye added so no one can tell if it's tax paid or not 🤭
Won't work in some CR diesels such as VAG but is good in things like Kubota etc.
Pity the cost of veg oil has gone up so much it used to be cheaper than diesel and my old Polo worked just as well on it 😱
