Well i did it - and accidently lit the air bag light when replacing my seats. I have the D800 tool but its only showing error 10 - no/limited connection to the car (1.9 1998)
Yet to try disconnecting the battery- but does anyone have any other ideas?

FYI i have used the tool before successfully and all my engine bay fuses look ok
Thanks

Where are you plugging the tool into.
Needs to be the round 20 pin obd adapter under the bonnet to read airbag codes.

You maybe firstly need to find someone near with a different scanner to plug in as it may jusf be a communication issue.

Hi I have a second one (with colour screen) that's showing an error as well?
I probably need to try the battery disconnect thing

The E10/E11 code means that the diagnostic tool cannot access the computer in the car.
Maybe your cable is faulty.
Try the bridge trick.
Use a wire and connect these two pins under the bonnet socket and then try from the obd that is located in the interior.

Hi is that a picture of the cable I would plug into the reader? Then pop it back into the port? Thanks

This is your external obd reader cap located under the bonnet.
you will bridge these two pins and put it back in place over the socket.
then you will use the internal obd located under the dash to read your codes.
I understand that your scanner has two sets of wires, one ending in a round end to fully read the codes externally (bonnet) and one square to read the codes internally.
the internal obd provides basic functions and you can not read all the vehicles modules, but with this “hack” it acts as if it is the external.
so if your “round” cable does not “talk” to the car, you can use the square ended one and check if the cable is the problem and the scanner does not connect.
if both ways do not work, then it is either a scanner issue or a module issue in the car.
I hope what I said makes sense.

The B800 airbag tool is a very basic code reader for airbag codes will certainly tell you the code but dosn't always reset them. I use a Creator 310+ code reader which costs about £50 on ebay or Amazon and found that quite a powerful scanner that cleared codes on my Z4 when my other laptop software, BMW Inpa and BMW Scanner 1.4 couldnt for some reason. The Creator found the fault first go and cleared it ok. On the Z4 there were menu items for the main airbag module and the right and left sattelite modules.
