Hi,

Yes, another post by me - last one.

I am on the look out for a replacement differential.

Its for a year 2000 2.0.

The final drive ratio is 3.45 - I think the 3.38 final drives can be insted instead, but would like to keep the original 3.45 if possible.

Not having much luck with these: My original diff developed a humm, so I get a replacemnt which was opened up and checked over by a local transmission company, who declared they could see nothing wrong with it, so it was fitted.

Now this has developed the fault of giving a "clunk" everytime I accelerate or decelerate.

Lower miles would be better, but just want on without problems.

Lets hope it's third time lucky!.

Regards,

Nick

A clunk doesn't necessarily mean diff.

Have you replaced the diff bushing and the subframe bushings?

✅ + propshaft guibo. Make sure you get it all checked before writing off the new differential.

I got this checked over by M-Tek - BMW specialists loacted in Northampton. The car was in for a service so I asked them to take a look. They spent a good couple of hours checking bushes, mounts and links. All they could find a small amount of play in the anti-roll bar bushes and a very small amount of play in one of the drive shafts, but apart from that nothing of any significance.

When they ran the car up on the ramp, with the use of the brakes to create a load, they were able to replicate the sound and it was coming from the diff area, therefore the conclusion was the diff.

Happy to get a second opinion if anyone can recomend a place in Northmaptonshire/Coventry area.

M-tek didn't, but the local transmission place did. I did ask if they had checked the back lash and they said yes, but I am wondering if it was just a cursory look and they put the back plate back on. :(
