Clutch knocking

Any ideas? I have an erratic knocking noise when my z3 2.8 is ticking over. seems to appear when the car is cold and stops when the clutch pedal is pressed, as soon as it’s released it starts again. Is it a thrust bearing? The clutch does seem high too so maybe just need a replacement

new on here and haven’t worked out how to upload a video.

More likely the dual mass flywheel is nearing the end of its life, which means a new clutch and flywheel assembly.
