SWMBO just mentioned that there will be some Classic Cars in Stanhope, Co. Durham on Saturday.

After a bit of digging I found these details. http://www.endurorally.com/pages/flying-scotsman-rally-2014. Basically pre WW2 cars driving from the Midlands to Scotland over a 3 day period. If they are passing new your area (there is a list of spectator points on the site) it may be worth checking out.

Just another thought.... How about organising something like this for Zroadster.org members? Maybe even using a similar route? Anybody interested???

Is that meeting up on the day, or organising something on a different day? I'm a bit slow today - sorry! :bag:

No, I'm sure it's not you being slow, more likely my poor explanation of what I had in mind.

OK my suggestion was to do the 3 day trip very much like the "endurorally". Z3s are too new to take part in one of there events, however, the route really appealed to me.

Starting in the Forest of Arden (nr Birmingham) heading up through the Peak District, then using the minor roads to make a route through Lancashire and Yorkshire, followed by the Pennine Ridge (well to one side of it) to the Borders before finishing up near Edinburgh. This spread out over 3 days would be comfortable and could take in some "interesting" and scenic roads. Last Monday I drove from near Coventry to Durham and used minor roads much of the way; really enjoyed it.

It would probably need 4 volunteers to organise the details - Midlands, Yorks/Lancs, North-East and Scotland; that's if there is a reasonable level of interest, say 10 cars. I know rallies need permissions in some areas so we would benefit from having input from a member who has done that before.

Just floating the idea at this stage, possibly as a 2015 event, but I would be happy to do the North-east section organisation if the idea of a "Super Cruise" were to appeal to others.

It certainly sounds appealing! The West Country Cruise (organised by @La_vida_diver) works well as a weekend event, so I can't see why with a bit of decent planning it couldn't work.

There is though a huge difference between a cruise and a rally.

As soon as timing and competion comes into an event totally different rules apply.

Thirty years ago (did I really just type that???) I did road rallying. Even then you had to notify any house holder within (I think it was a mile) of any competitive section of the route.

This meant writing a note and delivering to each household stating the date and time the cars would come through. If there were any objections the route had to be altered.

That was then, what you'd need to do today I have no idea.

I suspect you are taking on a bit of a can of worms.

Cruising is much easier, and maybe just find some off road sections or a friendly circuit or two to spice up the experience if you'd like.

Do though check what I've written as it's an awful long time since I competed.

Thanks for the feedback. The msauk site looks to have most of the rules and regs. I was talking to the Clerk of the Course for the Endurorally group yesterday and he seemed quite willing to share route details. The competitive elements seems to be on private land which may be how they avoid notifying everybody on the route, as mentioned by Rev. I used the term Super Cruise earlier and this (non competitive) approach may be easier on the admin side
I will take a closer look over the next couple of weeks and then, if it looks as if it could still be a "good idea", I might post an outline proposal.
