Carbon Fibre Wheels!

okay, not really carbon fibre wheels, and not destined for a Zed, but here are a couple of pictures of some wheels I saw this week. They are a standard set of alloys that had been refurbished and then Hydro-Dipped "gold carbon" by a local firm. Pictures don't really do them justice, but they are the best I could do with a phone!

I'm not thinking of doing mine as I intend to keep the Pup looking standard, but what do you all think?

Interesting concept to be individual for some I'm sure.
 
It's an interesting effect but will only work on something modern that is suitably customized to carry the look I think, a Z3 is too classic unless you go down the proper race car look.
I think an i8 or the Bangle Z4 could pull it off well.
This will catch on for sure. The execution will make the difference I think.

I saw this e90 today and like the wheels and could see how the carbon effect could work on the spokes (but leave the lips aluminum):

certainly think a Z3 is too old (classic) to carry them off. A late dat Z4 might get away with it if its one of the bolder colours

remind me next year and I'll find out, they are going on a friend of a friends car, soI should be able to find out how they have weathered
 
At BM's on the lawn last year there was a 3-series with carbon dipped wheels. Looked cool
 
If the wheels are lacquered afterwards there shouldn't be an issue with durability of the finish. Also assumption that the surface of the wheel is good before the dipping, as any finish will only be as good/durable as what it's applied to.

I've consider getting my 18" Breyton alloys dipped, wouldn't go with carbon fibre as in my opinion it's getting a little overused now on cars - but each to their own!
 
Mmm I have heard good and bad reports about this, the problem is not how long they will last its all down to the preparation, if they are not prepped properly they will peel, heat can make the transfer wrinkle poor materials will fade quickly, to do this correctly the item to be dipped should be prepped as for a refurb then painted with the correct paint then dipped then lacquered. Good idea but in the wrong hands it is useless, and expensive, done well it will last years, done poorly (cheap) it will not last much over 12 months. I would use on interior parts but for wheels? I know of two people that have had the wheels done and wish they never, as they now look so tatty with bubbles and flaking after only a short time. These were done on the cheap so to speak.

All you need to do is order an M4 GTS and spec the wheels as an option.

Ok, with only 30 coming to the UK, all sold already and a price tag of around £120 000 without the carbon wheels, we are not going to see many sets of these.

Now these look really smart but as for the price tag I'll give them a miss.
