Hi all,

So I’m looking at car magazine subscriptions as it’s been a long time since I’ve subscribed to anything.

Are there any magazines that people recommend or would avoid?
Super cars have never felt obtainable and consequently not of much interest to me, so comparing a Lamborghini to a Ferrari i find rather boring.

I think what I’m really after is a combination of “classic car” / “practical classics” and the more mainstream Octane / Autocar etc.

Do people here have a go to mag?

I have Practical classic on subscription as it seems to focus on more affordable classics and has some interesting repair features.

I find that Octane is a great read, look forward to it every month.

Not only does it have good wright up's and info, but the Staff car bits are brilliant. 27L Rolls Royce tank engine into a Rover SD1 so you can do 200mph. Perfectly sensible.
It's got Dave Walker, any mag with Dave Walker is worth reading, thoroughly nice bloke.

I have Practical Classics on subscription (Birthday present from Sue) although as Sue is into classic cars we both read it (the gift that keeps on giving) . Much more focused on the down to earth aspects of older car ownership & maintenance. Biased towards the more affordable end of the market.

Used to take Practicle Classics from the day they started publishing, have a stash of mags from all the early years in the loft, keep thinking I should off load them on ebay, doubtful I will read through them again.

It appears they have only risen to the point of social media which is a great shame. I can understand the reasons but I dont want to spend more time on the screen. You can’t beat a proper, tangible magazine.
Baby steps.
