So I'm listening to the radio today (Radio 2) and the topic of discussion was that an Insurance company has refused to pay out on a claim as the owner of the car had had some sign writing put on the car and failed to declare this as a modification! This leads me to wonder, how many car/vans/trucks are on the road with sign writing that have now made there insurance void? To make things worse, you can be legally insured i.e. you pay your premium each year, but because of the undeclared mods (stickers) you are validating you insurance! i.e. your insurance company will never pay out!

This got me thinking, would it not be easier these days to have to send a few pics to your insurance company on renewal of the policy?

I had heard/read somewhere in the past that stickering your car can be an issue, although I thought it applied to when people stick performance part logos on. Guessing it's along the lines that you are advertising all the car parts which could be stripped down when stolen.

You've all seen the crappy jap car in Tesco's with a line of logos like this stuck behind the front wheel arch...

EDIT: Guessing it's this story here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-31064998

An insurance company has threatened to void the policy of a Christian minister because she put religious stickers on her car.

Reverend Wena Parry, 75, was told that stickers saying "Christ Must Be Saviour" and "Christ For Me" could be regarded as "modifications" and could invalidate her insurance policy.

I though the Berlin Wall came down years ago. Who's making these policies Putin? And wouldn't thieves be surprised to find out the only thing to steal off those stickered cars were the stickers. Boy I don't envy you having to declare every little thing you change on your cars. JIM

Sad story really, I would say retrospective increase of the premium is reasonable for undeclared mods - but stickers...o_O

I agree with the insurance company, those slogans could make her a target for religious nuts to attack the car, unlike this forum ;) sometimes it's best to keep your opinions to your self, and not publicly display them...........and I agree with @hard top ............Poor @t-tony

It just seems ash as though any excuse not to pay out, a chap called in whilst the article was being discussed, he had been hit accidentally by a younger guy, the young guy had changed the colour of his car and not declared it to the insurance company. Not only did the insurance company not pay put for the policy holder but also refused to pay for the damage to the car he hit! To cut a long story short the guy that had been hit presented a file of documents to a specialist solicitor along with his business card. He happened to be a radio presenter. The case was settled in full the next day!

I agree with you Rich, you can see that these slogans could attract some unwanted attention, what about football stickers though?

The companies I have worked for over the last 20 years or so have all had vehicles that have been sign written, to my knowledge this has not been declared as a modification, it slightly concerns me that half the drivers on the road could be the n this situation. I wonder what our resident insurance broker @ChrisKnottIns thinks about this?

Guess what Stacey does for a living ;)

But joking aside I have just had this very conversation with my insurance company. They have gone through my declared mods list with a fine tooth comb even down to the brands of parts I listed.
