Hi I am planning a run down to Brittany in August, Never been to this part of France, My planned route is below, any advice about where to stay and what to see would be welcome. Planned to stop for three days somewhere for a little chill out any suggestions?

The port of St Malo is stunning if that's where your sailing into. If not the walled town is well worth a visit. Just across the border into Normandy is Saint-mont-Michel. This is a fantastic day out, seriously worth a visit. It's a cracking area to visit, I'm sure you'll love it mate.

The port at Saint Nazaire and the bridge you go over are good. Can visit the Submarines while you are there. Where is your first stop ?

@TaffZee the medieval town of Dinan is well worth a visit. Try Dinard too, across the river from St Malo.

We are off there on the 22nd of this month, Taking the ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo, then a short run down to Cap Coz near Concarneau. We will stay there for a few days and then run down to St Nazaire, cross the Loire there and then run down the coast to Saint-Jean-De-Monts.

Brittany is lovely this time of year, especially Concarneau as it is a walled city in the sea, well worth a visit and Quimper has a beautiful Cathedral. The coastline from Concarneau to Bénodet & Plomeur has some lovely beaches including Cap Coz and you can watch the fishermen come in with their catches at Loctudy. Fouesnant has a wonderful traditional market, well worth a visit.
St Malo to Concarneau is 140 miles, approx 2 and a half hour run, We usually catch the overnight ferry at 11 pmish from Portsmouth using it as an Hotel, arriving fresh in the morning about 7.30am (French time) straight on to the D768, then the D790, then follow the signs for Concarneau.

Are you planning to start at Calais and finish at Caen or the other way round?

You will love it Taffzee, Billz is right about the bridge at St Nazaire, it is massive, but you are down into the Vendeé, across the Loire at that point and no longer in Brittany.

When we finally called in to see Mont Saint Michel, last year, Dave, after passing it by for several years, we found the place was packed with Japanese Tourists, so you could hardly move. The place itself is lovely, with wonderful views across the estuary. The navette bus system, in and out, is very well organised, But I would not want to walk round the Mount at low tide as some Tourists did and got covered in mud! We found trying to take a picture virtually impossible as people kept walking in front of the camera!!!

Don't know yet Bill, ferries to St Malo are expensive, so probably go Le Havre (Less than half the price) Probably first stop Dinard have a run sticking to the coast and spend two/three nights in Carnac Plage before le mans and then home via Calais.

I don't Like crowds, We will try and call to see it during the evening. When hopefully it will be a little quiter

What ever you choose Jim you will find it a breeze in the Z4 and much more enjoyable than the Z3 for cruising Europe

st malo is lovely st mont Michele is as said full of oriental tourists but a must see we stayed at a lovely place inside the walled town owned by a big German guy with his Thai wife the food was exceptional

Only done 350 miles in it so all I can say really

Yes, Taffzee, Poole would be closer for you, and St Malo is closer to Brittany on the French side, if you are doing your route anti-clockwise and returning via Calais.

We found that you could get more in the boot of the Z4 as well, in comparison to the Z3. Mind you that is only if you have the last soft top that BMW produced. The hard folding tops seem even smaller than the 3
