Further to my original question, now have a more serious problem in that bonnet release lever not working so can’t open bonnet as need to do an oil change.
Any easy way to open as presumably need to take off the front grills which at least will make it easier to use the chrome pen!

Take the belt off your jeans and thread it tough and back out of the grill bars. The grills pull out.

There are many threads on the internet on how to release the bonnet/hood, once you get the grills out.

Thanks and have got both grills out and pulled on the cable between the catches and the passenger one released and the bonnet lifted slightly. However can’t see how to do the drivers side? The lever in the car is pulled all the way out but haven’t taken it off yet to check it. Previously it did need pulling almost all the way to open the bonnet so perhaps with hindsight I should have done something then although did grease all the catches well.

Thanks and have taken it to a local garage to get it sorted as will be much easier I imagine to do it with the car on a ramp as getting retook old now for crawling under the car! Will get them to put new cables and catches in to avoid it happening again.

PITA when they go on the Z3 but can be done as mentioned by many before me. As you say best to change everything whilst in there.

On my Fauxrarri Replicas the problem gets interesting:

Easy to reach up from below on my 250SWB (Blue One) but the California 250 (red one) uses one latch only at the rear of the bonnet in the centre and guess what?

Yep.... cannot be reached by any method known to man! (unless you count drilling a hole in the bonnet and inserting a screwdriver/lever) I have fitted an additional emergency release cable to a T-Handle under the car where it can be reached (if you know where it is). I must make a little sketch of exactly where to drill a bonnet hole in case bothm cables fail).

How much did they charge you to sort it?
