More information is starting to surface on the BMW Z5 being the replacement to the current Z4. There are even rumours of there being a Z5M.

The BMW Z5 is the first fruit of BMW’s sports car collaboration with Toyota. The BMW Z5 ditches its space-inefficient retractable hard top in favor of a classic soft top.

The BMW Z5 will debut with its 2.0-liter turbo offered in three stages of tune: 190 hp, 245 hp, and 270 hp. An even sportier Z5M would use the 425-hp turbo six from the new 2015 BMW M3 and M4. Alternative scenarios show a straight six (Z6) and a three-cylinder (Z3).

That particular model comes with a turbo-charger [the boot full of Red Bull and holes in the floor for you to use your feet like Fred Flintstone.]

I think it's interesting ditching the folding hard roof and going back to canvas again.

The engine line up looks good too, if you ignore the silly 3 cylinder engines. Would be interesting to see what effort they make with an M version, as most of the recent M variants have been fairly insipid looking.

Well I like it, said Florence, hopefully. Seriously though I do think it's a good looking car. When the Z4 came out I hated it and TBH I'm still not a big fan BUT the Z3 won't be around for ever, in big numbers anyway, so sooner or later we will end up with one if we want to continue the Z roadster experience so bring on the Z5 for me and then I might skip the 4. :)

long live the Z3!....you are right they won't be around forever but that Z5 is not a replacement..its too big! as is the Z4.

i'm thinking of "future proofing" mine by buying spare body panels and another engine with a trans and ECU for when the time comes...that way I can keep her on the road for years!
