The Z looks nice.
Sure does, but the X5 is quicker, by a rather scary margin. 0..62mph in 6.5s -for an over 2 tons truck!- It also does 40mpg. That's what 20 years of evolution in cars look like.

Hehe yeah, and it also comes with a... driver...

I did about 2k miles in france with it, with the new 'lane assistant', radars, cameras etc it basically drives itself on anything like an A road or a motorway. All you have to do is keep a bit of skin near the steering wheel (like, your knee) and it turns, accelerates (to the speed it auto-detects from the signs/map) and brakes (for other cars). It'll stop behind a car without assistance, and start again etc.

It's spooky, for for long boring journeys, it's like chrismas. You can /literally/ play with your phone, there's nothing to do.

On the other hand, in sports mode in single track lanes, it's a frigging /monster/ -- Not at all the style of driving you'd do with a Z3 where you can /corner/ and have to manhandle it around, pretty much literally when you feel the car 'skipping' a bit sideway on bumpy turns -- but the POWER of the thing and the brakes are just amazing. *luckily* it has the big brakes, pretty often you definitely feel you need them! :)

So the Z3 is a 'delicacy' and the X5 is more, like my friend said when I was doing a bit of rallye stage driving is more "BMW Shermann Tank"

With that grill!

It’s the Z3 for me but can understand the appeal of a “tank”*

*each to their own

We’re looking at getting an early 2003 (?) X5 for a couple of grand. We fancy trying our hand at maintaining one and having something to trailer Z3s around. I think they might just start becoming a little desirable one day too as they have quite a classic look.
