Hi all, I brought back with me from Florida a pair of brand new Genuine chrome exhaust tips for an up to '98 2.8. Part numbers as you see. Sadly they're slightly too small for the tips on my 2000 2.0 car so I'm selling them and only wish to recover my cost (so I can buy something else!) and am willing to post f.o.c. anywhere in the UK. The size is shown on the screen shot of the listing.

You can check them out here for size etc.

Postage from California would be $28.99 = approx. £18.00
If your the person who wants to keep things original and good these may be for you.

PM me for details please, thanks,

Tony.

Will they fit @BMBabe Tony? I've asked her before for the size she needs but she's not yet told me! If they'll fit I'll buy them for her as I know she has her move coming up and likely a few surprise costs! That's actually the style I was looking at for my car too as I want to go to a true dual exhaust system on Trinity and likely TOO when it gets here! JIM

Yeah they will.
According to bmwfans.info the 2.0 and 2.2 share the same exhaust tips going on the part numbers. Logic suggest that if they wont fit t-tony's 2.0, then they wont fit a 2.2 either.

The dimensions of these tips is shown if you look on the link to the seller on eBay. 21/4" x. 21/8"" and 23/4" long. I don't think they would stretch enough as they do look smaller than the black ones I originally removed from my car. £35 is a lot to "waste" if they are not going to fit after attempting to make them fit. A vernier calliper is all that's needed to measure the outlets on Stacey's car. Even a bent bit of thick wire and a tape measure would do it.

But will Stacey Have those tools available? I didn't realize how short they are so stretching probably won't work! I don't know if she actually has a stock backbox or an aftermarket with slightly different circumferences from OEM! Either way she needs to know that size if she wants to buy dual tips! JIM

I went out to the garage tonight and fetched one of my original black tips, here it is alongside one of the new chrome ones. The old one goes right over the new one completely, bigger difference than I remembered.

Definetly a size difference! No way the small ones would have stretched that far without splitting! JIM

Actually this all ties together nicely when we were having the discussion about the exhaust aperture size in the rear bumpers between pre and post facelifts. You can see why the exit was so much smaller on the earlier cars, if that's the size of the 2.8 pipes.

I hadn't considered that Gaz, a good point. Someone else is interested in them, hopefully he is following this thread and is measuring his tail pipes as we speak.

After seeing the comparison I doubt they'll fit Stacey's car. I'd still like to know what size she does need so
I can get her a set after she so kindly offered to deliver my bumper from Anthony to Sean a few weeks ago. JIM

According to her VIN number the BMW part number is - 18 10 7 500 200. Doesn't help with the dimensions I'm afraid!

That's showing 98 on then Gaz, maybe the change point?

Not necessarily, because the 2.8 carried on past '98 up to somewhere around 2000. It's probably one of those cut off points that you can't ever pin down. Guessing it may be more around facelift time, which would be '99(ish)

Pre facelift and post facelift 2.8's have different size tailpipes with pre facelift being a lot smaller. The tailpipes here look to be for the pre facelift version and I'm pretty sure that facelift 2.0 and 2.8 tailpipes are the same diameter. They both share the same part numbers anyway.
