Hi all.
As some of you may have read I had a bad day yesterday within 5 miles my caliper stuck on fast producing loads of smoke.Outcome is the caliper has gone bad every time you free it off one press on the brake it's solid on again.
I have been chatting to some helpful people on here and got advice. One person has suggested my request in a new thread.
I have now ordered a new front caliper so my very big request is if there's anyone in the South East or Hertfordshire area who would be kind enough to fit it for me.
I would be very grateful and expect to pay any of your expenses incured plus Tea and biscuits.
Any help much appreciated.
Tracy.

I would have said the same Tracy would have been happy to help but I'm miles away unfortunately as its not really a big job.
So instead i will offer a piece of advice if i may .
I would also fit a new set of pads as you more than likely have cooked the pads on the seized side.
Stephen.

Edit .
After just reading your other thread if the disc has got that hot may also be heat damaged so personally i would be doing caliper disc and pads.

Putting it into context Tracy what your asking for is not just your average hobby DIY man. He's going to need brake bleeding kit along with brake fluid and the tools to free a seized caliper. That's assuming the disk hasn't been damaged. So someone coming to do a favour could turn out to be a headache.

There's been some kind offers from people who are far away and obviously capable of doing the job.
Who have said not a problem if they were more local.

I'm not trying to say anything, it's a big ask and a lot of work. It's easy for anyone to say it's a shame they're are so far away.

Sorry Lee I have to disagree no disrespect to yourself but the comments undermine the 3 people who have offered to do the work and are obviously confident and capable of the work required .
As I said any expenses incurred would be reimbursed .
Sorry my mistake for asking for bit of community camaraderie .
I can only thank the people from the Northern half of the Uk.
I will search out a mobile mechanic.
Again many thanks to the people who offered their support.

I am sure Tracy will confirm with anybody who offers to do this job for her that they have at least done the job before and have the equipment needed. I certainly would have checked with her what equipment if any she has to check what I needed to bring.

@Tracy Dee, you are just going to have to bite the bullet and get it to a garage or something.
There are obviously no members near you competent enough to do the job and on top of that, where is the guarantee after the work has been done?

Fitting a Calliper really is a relatively simple process. It highly unlikely that the pads and disc will be affected going on what you told us Tracy. I can talk your husband through changing it over the phone or if you have WhatsApp I can video the process and send you it. In total there are 2 screws, 1 clip and one hose to disconnect. Bleeding is a simple process, the car will bleed itself!

Tony.

I can see what you are saying here Lee but i am going to have to disagree with you.
I did mean what i said if Tracy was nearer i would be more than happy to help her and being in the motor trade for more than 25 yrs i reckon that i could have assessed Tracy's car advised her what parts she needed a then be more than capable to have then carried out that job and have all the required equipment to do it .
But i would also like to think that anyone who has offered to do this would have the proper skills and tools to do it and that Tracy would also check this .
Stephen.

You missed the point I was trying to make. But I still stand by it's very easy for anyone to say that. I don't doubt or dispute anyone's ability. Hope it gets fixed.

No need to take any offence at what @Lee said @Tracy Dee . I am sure we would all rather you asked for help than gave up on the car due to lack of funds.

However I understand Lee's point. And I think he was only trying to help manage your expectations.

I'd happily do the job on my own car. But I wouldn't want the responsibility on someone else's.

And Lee is of course a very good samaritan himself in the Zedshed.

If you are competent enough to do that on your own car Rob you are competent enough to do it on anyone else's car mate. No different to me doing it at work or in my garage for other members same a @Lee does. I would certainly be happy to do the job for Tracy but it would not be for free as I would use a fair amount of fuel to get there and back. I think that is also Steve's point?

Tony.
