The C-in-C's Yeti clutch decided to throw the towel in today on a dual carriageway 50m short of the roundabout whilst the C-in-C was driving. A very busy and fast road. Child No.3 swiftly ejected and hazards on. A kind van driver towed Betty off down a side road (The Police rubber necked on the way past without stopping). AA recovered Betty to the garage where she's booked in for a cambelt change and service next week. Result :arghh:

Me too mate. The C-in-C did say that to the AA man and he said that yes, the Yeti is a mega reliable car (that's why we got it), he did say though that the clutch on the 1.2tsi is a bit lightweight but cheap to buy (define cheap). Many things involved in the clutch as you know, when I got their it was on the floor and goosed, got it towed to a safe place and took the nipper home. The AA had it working and driving but then it went again, hydraulics 🤷‍♂️ We'll get the results in a day or two. Never had a clutch go on me in any car with less than 100k miles.

Is it maybe the hydraulic side of things either the clutch master or slave cylinder has failed as opposed to the clutch unit itself failing.

From what I can see looks like the 1.2 uses an external mounted slave cylinder unlike the 2.0tdi which uses an internal concentric release bearing ( so slave cylinder and release bearing all one bit internal)

At least an external cylinder should easier, and less expensive to replace. I would be bending some ears at VW to cover the cost.

Agreed, I had one as a company car and happily dealt with road and off-road conditions that it really shouldn't of have (but not snow - cpmpany was too tightfisted to fit winters!)

Mrs W has an Audi A3 Cabrio, had it from new, it will be 6 years old in April and covered less than 20K. Last year she was on the way to the Audi dealership for a routine service and got caught in a narrow lane and ended up reversing for about 500M, somehow burned out the clutch.

The Audi dealership recovered the car and repaired it, total bill circa £3K -f'ing shysters :mad::mad:
