Hi everyone, Well after yesterdays result with the MOT and a good long run around Derbyshire I parked the Z up last night, locked on the drive outside the house - low and behold at 4.30am the alarm went off - went outside in my boxers (not a pretty sight) pointed the key at the car and nothing - completely dead. Alarm went through several sessions of sounding and eventually stopped. Crept out pretty early this morning to hopefully avoid the neighbours emptying their p*** pots on me, and checked car to find that the battery was not even showing 1 volt when connected to an ammeter and was completely flat, which presumably was the reason for the alarm sounding. I am assuming the battery has just given up the ghost - it is a Lion (Eurocarparts sell them) that was on the car when I bought it and from the stickers on it is 2 years old. In all fairness it has never let me down and even when stored has started the car first time after months of standing unused.
I have checked to see if I have any parasitic drain from the car, and can't find anything that must have been pretty big to drain the battery that quickly. The alternator is putting out just under 14 volts under load, which I would think is about right. Put another battery on that I know is good and that is holding it's charge ok, with the car locked and alarmed.
So, after all that, I am assuming the battery has failed - it has one of those little windows that show green when fully charged and ok - this was showing green even when the meter was showing half a volt.
Anyone else had a battery fail suddenly. Secondly can I remove the siren from the car by simply unplugging it or will this cause the alarm to activate.
Thanks

A common cause can be the boot light staying on. Pop your phone on record, stick it in the boot and close it to see what's going on.

Wouldn't have thought that would drain a fully charged battery in such a short time - and I have put an LED bulb in anyway + the replacement battery hasn't lost any charge since I put it on the car this morning - I've been checking it all day.

Lion battery have a 3 year warranty so if you have the bill take it back.
Yes I understand so, but don't have receipt for it. The seller put it on when I bought the car and there is a ECP sticker on with the date, presumably when it was fitted

Should be ok if it has a ECP sticker with date always worth a try.:D
I changed a Lion with ECP no problems.

It happens sometimes that an inner connection gives up and the result is sudden death! It's a warranty case , if still available...

Yes, I moved a Skoda around the yard one day to have a sort out, got back in it less than 10 minutes later and the battery had completely died.

ECP have several branches so it may be worth turning up at one of the local branches with the battery. The previous owner may still have the receipt or at least have the card transaction on line to show them proof of purchase
