asc and abs lights on.Help needed please.

Hi all. Just bringing my Z out of hibernation for its mot.Not used it very much if at all over the last year but now intend to bring it back into the fold.Unfortunately the asc and abs lights on the instrument panel are showing.Took it for a hard run but they won't go away.Looking at what threads I could find the general view points to the wheel sensors but I have hooked it up to an Autel code reader and it all comes back clear,no faults detected.
Has anyone any suggestions please?

It could be that you need to replace your battery

Thanks for that.Put in a new battery less than a year ago and have kept it hooked up to a Ctek.

Which port did you use for the code reader? The OBD in the car or the R100 round socket under the bonnet?

OK, you really need to read the codes using the connector under the bonnet, the OBD in the car only has a few modules connected to it. You may need an additional adaptor for your code reader but theses can be bought for a few pounds.

Hi @Acousticplayer I see you live in Leicester and I'm in Hinckley so if you want you can come over and I will plug my INPA software in which will give the faults. This is the BMW specific software. send pm if interested.

It is either wheel sensors or the ABS module.

Another satisfied customer 3 faults all about voltage differences with the ABS module so guess as has been stood for a while with the charger the battery voltage has dropped and upset the modules. All cleared and Davis had a scenic drive around and no lights reappeared.

Apologies for the poor instructions for a quick trip round the block David @Acousticplayer bit further than expected.

Hi Brian bad news I'm afraid. Booked the MOT but as I prepared to drive her down to the local garage the lights wouldn't go out. Cancelled the MOT and took her for a drive but no joy. Not quite sure where to go from here.

Perhaps read the codes again, it should give you a good indication of what is going on as the codes were cleared the other day.

That's annoying Dave. I can't help with the code reader 'till next week but as there were no faults relating to the wheel sensors it could be the ABS module faulty.

Hi Brian,thanks for that.Bcables whose link you gave me are only 5 mins away from me.I,ve e-mailed them to see if I can call in and pick up an INPA pack and see if I can borrow a laptop from one of my Daughters.If that brings no joy then Ecutesting in Derbyshire is within calling distance so I will be popping over to see them.I,ll keep you up to date.Thanks again.

Hi all. I anticipate having to send my ABS module off for assessment and repair.Can anyone tell me whether I can remove the module from the unit in situ or will I have to remove the whole unit complete with pump.The module appears to be attached to the unit by 4 strange looking bolts.The heads are like nothing I,ve ever seen before.Has anyone any idea how to remove them.Hard to describe them but they look like small splined domes only about 3mm across.Does anyone know how many bolts secure the complete unit.I can see one but can't find a second.

Hi Lexybhoy.Well the short answer is I don't know yet. I managed to remove my ABS unit and sent it off to ECU testing.They told me they had found a fault which they fixed [£200]. They returned it and I re-fitted it.
When I came to bleed the brakes I found that my rear anti roll bar link had departed from the ARB and repairing that has led to a chain of other things that I have decided to do whilst I have the rear up in the air and stripped down.[please read that as it is meant to be read].
Basically putting on new discs and pads,HEL brake lines,roll bar bushes and links,callipers and brake shoes plus a bit of cleaning up and rust treatment.
Bad weather has halted things for a while so I haven't been able to check if the new ABS unit has cured the warning light problem.
I will update as soon as possible.

I had this same problem a couple of years ago when pulling the Zed out of hibernation This was before I got a trickle charger. Anyway, after asking for advice on the forum(s) one of the answers was to go and drive it a few miles. I did and after about 60 miles the light went out and (touches wood) has been OK ever since. May be worth a try before stripping stuff down. Best of luck.
